<div class="IPBDescription">UT2k4. Epic = King.</div> I loved UT2k3, despite what most thought of it. It was fun, it was fast, it was the best twitch gaming ever got.
When 2k4 came out- I wanted Epic's babies. I would easily put them up for GOTY award, just because it is SO polished, and the fact that they continue to make it better and better over time.
Just today the second patch was released- 3236(before was 3204). This didn't add any new maps, and made performence a LITTLE worse(or maybe it was just the servers I was in, I dunno- but I had about 3 less fps)- but the balancing job was the best I've seen a company do in months.
Now, the Manta is more maneuverable, and can stop faster(if you hit alt-fire+crouch really fast, you hit the ground, slowing you down, and allowing quick U-Turns or just plain changing directions without turning).
The scorpion's strength has been turned down, but they kept the chain-laser-ball-thing being able to attach to average opponents(aka without vehicles)! So now, it kills them easily, the question is- can you hit them? And vehicles now take more damage from it than before, but the path the ball goes on is much less forgiving aim-wise to the driver of the scorpion.
The Goliath(tank) has now been Onos-ized- 1 on 1 against it, it can SLAUGHTER easily, and even 5 on 1 or more it still is great. But if everyone concentrates fire on it- it goes down super fast(I was just in a server where I came in with support mantas[2] and a scorpion helping me out, as well as a MGer on top of the tank, and everyone aimed for me, the tank first- I was out in 4 seconds, and could only kill one person- it wasn't frustrating, it was a amazing show of teamwork), which works wonderfully to encourage teamwork.
Teamwork-which seemed bigger now- like now, when someone is building with the link gun, the whole thing can go up in 15 seconds. When someone links to that first person, it goes to 11.5 seconds. 3rd person- 7. And continually faster. If 5 people time it perfectly and click at the same time- BOOM its up, instantly. Same with vehicles- alone they heal a bit on the slow side, but even if just one person is helping, it goes up INCREDIBLY fast, which I love.
Then, the turrets got a unusual buff- they do less damage, BUT, they screw you up BADLY. If you are in anything but either a Goliath or a Leviathan(you know, the 5 person super-cannon-tank-thing), it makes you fly all over the place(I was in a Hellbender several times, and the guy would hit me on the top, which would flip me up, then he'd shoot again at my underside, sending me flying- incredibly frustrating, but a good strategy being I found out- it does 4x damage to hit the underside of a vehicle! So while I was sliding back almost flipped over, everyone shot there, and BAM I was dead.)
Then, all the regular weapons got various buffs and nerfs.
The Shield Gun is MUCH stronger now- without charging any more than half, you kill someone(who has only 50 armor). 3/4ths charge will kill 100 armor, and full charge gets 150 armor & if you follow it up with a small quick hit, will get rid of a 199hp/150armor guy.
Assault Rifles have been buffed BIG TIME now. They aren't worthless, and in fact- if you manage to hit a vehicle with the grenades, they do 2x as much as the grenade gun's grenades!(but its hard to hit, so its worth it)
Bio-Rifle has been buffed, by the explosion range being bigger, and it can be attracted to players outside of vehicles, OR the Hellbender vehicle(you know those swirly things on it, and wondered what they were? Radioactive fuel. The biosludge is attracted to it!- Link Guns have the same stuff, and if you have that out, it attracts to you)
Shock Rifle has 1 change- the Explosion(rightlick, shoot the ball rightlick put out with leftclick) does .5 more damage, but the ball is harder to shoot.
Link Gun recieves building/repairing buffs with teamwork.
Chaingun is easier to hit things with now, but less effective on most vehicles- but ESPECIALLY effective on Goliaths/Mantas!
Flak Cannon: Main fire has been sped up(flies through the air faster), alt-fire has become harder to kill with(if it lands near, it does okay damage- but now, if you hit, its sure-fire kill).
Rocket Launcher- No noticeable changes(that I noticed...so no noticeable changes!)
Sniper Rifle: Harder to see through smoke.
Lightning Gun: More damage against people and Manta/Raptor, less damage against everything else.
Overall, I'd say this has to be the best example of support for a game I've ever seen- patches that make sense, and TONS of things to help the mod community in it too! <3 Epic!

So good that I was gonna get a second copy.. but Newegg seems to have ran out of stock after I placed my order- now it's holding up the whole set of parts for my college computer >_<
Nothing in the changelog is true, but they HAVE modified them. As the same with almost all changelogs, they didn't post everything(or else we'd be looking at 10+ pages of code/balancing banter). When it comes to a game I play this often- its easy to notice changes.

I play the game competitively and have noticed NO weapon changes. The shield gun always HAS been a complete monster and I'm surprised you didn't already know that. The biorifle was improved from the patch (IE after the demo in the full release, which isn't really a patch now I think of it) and is used for a wide variety of trick jumps. Grenades have always been effective (70 damage) and in fact many think they were too powerful as it is. The link is identical also as is the chaingun (Right click has around 95%+ accuracy, primary fire is shocking though). Lightning gun doesn't need to do more damage (70, and from what I just looked at, <i>it does exactly the same</i>).
In fact, out of boredom and deciding to pry around in the code, the weapons do EXACTLY the same damage.
That sounds more like the lightweight vehicles mutator than any balance changing. I always play my instant action games with that turned up to 7. Flipping vehicles into the air, particularly unoccupied ones that then crash down on other people, is quite satisfying.

Well, I dunno. I'm going off of gameplay- I don't play competitively(due to the fact I can't find a decent clan that doesn't believe the more people on a server that can't handle it the better, or isn't full of total a-holes that can't say a sentence without cussing), but I sure as hell play at least 3-6 hours a day. I'm addicted...help me...
Nah, they haven't changed anything like that (though it runs smoother now, but at a cost of some FPS), I checked the code to be sure and looked at ProU (they would notice anything right off that lot).
The water splashes are extremely pointless incidently and don't even work all that well.
Hardly any of my mates have the game though, just the demo. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> So i'm probably going to buy them all a copy. Only ?17.99. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I read that, and looked for the patch, but there isn't a new one on their site <a href='http://unreal.com/index2.html' target='_blank'>http://unreal.com/index2.html</a>
This is exactly what killed/is killing the Tribes franchise...
Not necessarily. If you remember, quite a few newby-helpful patches came too: Better maneuvering in Manta, even if it is one of the few newby friendly ones.
But then again, it doesn't take much to get skilled in this game. Just time. I'm along with many of the others that are topping servers right now, so maybe I'm better than I thought(though I don't want to brag, but I was at least 20 ahead from the guy under me, but then again it was a nVidia hosted server, so I shouldn't expect much. Anyone got a good server? I want teh IP!), but I'm not that good from what I can tell. I just help my buddies out, and play how I like. Though this morning I found myself raising all kind of hell with the Manta...I got "GODLY!" while inside the enemy base on Torlan, just squashing everything to bits. It was a bit of spawn camping, but that was so that the rest of my team could take the power core.
Well, at least you didn't say "Mindlessly kill"- most people get that wrong about the game. It requires intelligence, and lots of it- only the Assault Rifle and Link Gun alt-fire hit the target instantly, and both are quite weak. Otherwise, you gotta time your shots, lead them, and overall be in a guessing match from your opponent. Vehicles pay by the same rules, except you can run people over(which is my reason for loving the manta so much...Raptor too. I saw a guy this morning- got 30 kills, running people over in the Raptor[aka, the flying thing. Not hovering, FLYING]. It was whicked coolnesspai.)

Well now, if you get a direct hit, the thing is gone, period. I'm not sure if the 10+ I shot were full hp or not, but I'd guess so. I know that today I had at least 2 coming at me full speed with 3 people in 'em goin for me, BAM its gone.
That is what they did, hence why UT2k4 is actually playable in DM and CTF, as opposed to UT2k3, which was a mess.
but it's good to see them chaning it for the better
Most of the great add-ons are thanks to their fabulous Make Something Unreal contest, too. I know Valve probably just assume the mod community will have a field day with HL2, but it'd be awesome if they just shamelessly ripped off the Unreal competition.

Whats this? They did a $1,000,000 contest?
