time to bump the thread because I love my new acquisition, far cry, so much...
One is when I entered a low vent to bypass an ongoing battle between some mercs and trigens. The gunfire and shouting stopped, and I chanced a quick look behind me towards a turn in the vent. The shadow of a trigen crawling over a lighted grating in the floor inched around the turn in the vent... BLAM BLAM BLAM!! Far Cry is the first game I've ever played that makes use of shadows like that... wow.
Another one from Far Cry happened when I rounded a bend to find a huge war occuring between waves and waves of trigens and a few mercs on the other end of the hall. Flaming barrels were knocked over in the narrow hallway, casting flickering, hellish light down the hallway. I grabbed a minigun and started blasting the sea of trigens coming at me... suddenly, the little monkey-sized ones at the end of the hall scuttled out of the way, and the silhouette of a 9-foot (3m) tall leviathan filled the end of the hallway. Fat Boy. A lifetime of concentrated fire from that minigun barely killed him. Then, a few mercs who were eating lunch in the adjacent room while their teammates were being slaughtered came out to see what the commotion was, and killed me. So I had to do it again
I will second, err..., third the vote for Homeworld. I'm listening to the main theme right now, and it really is music whose beauty can only be described in the language of stars. It was nice to see a game take itself seriously, as opposed to the somewhat cartoonish atmosphere in Starcraft, or the "EV1L V1LL41N" plot in C&C.
My second vote goes towards the scene where Quistis blows the giant spider machine thing to bits, and the first battle scene in FF8. For a game with such a terrible plot, character development, and atmosphere, it's amazing what the cinematics team managed to do with FF8. Absolutely the most brilliant action scenes I've ever seen in a game, no doubt partially due to the realistic characters. Unfortunately, the game still treated itself with a cartoonish aura, thus why it sucked balls.
I and my squadmates were commencing the attack on a heavily fortified TR base (Was an NC support class, armor/vessle engy and a adv hacker, and our Gal pilot) I had prefromed a slow pass overhead as my squad bailed out, bringing the pain (and crushing about 5 people in the ANT of duem). Rather than bail out and obliterate my Darleen (Yes, i named my Galaxy) I found a secluded spot to set down. I exit my baby and pull out my welder, over the humm i hear a thumping, i look over and see a squad of VS MAXs entering the clearing (Baka me, i landed on a road) The havent seen me yet, so i did the only thing a lightly armed, unarmored fool could do...
I jumped back in the cockpit, got her a foot off the ground, spun her to face the squad, and slammed the afterburners. The sound obviously drew the attention of the maxes, but they had just enough time to mutter "Oh sh-" before i plastered them over my windshield.
If i only had enough for the monthly fee, i'd be back in my armor in no time...

Did you get to the enormous battle between mercs and trigens yet? It's basically a fort held up by mercs just blasting the hell out of an army (literally, an army) of trigens with rocket launchers and mortars.

my coolest videogame moment: operation flashpoint multiplayer, i'm part of a two man sniper team, moving toward a town objective about a mile away. a few minutes into the mission, moving cautiously at about 1 mile in 12 minutes, we run into a few scouts in a small but thickly forested area. we take them down quickly from afar, but receive sporadic counterfire in our rough direction, enough to confirm that they know our position.
we hear what sounds like carpet bombing going on at our rear - the enemy's called down an aerial strike on the small (maybe 4 acre) patch of forest. we quickly split up about 100 yards from each other, making our way at a sprint towards the town.
after about 30 seconds, i hear rotors, and then see a Cobra helicopter streak past at my left, about 70 yards out, letting fly the contents of its missile pods at the woods below it. i tell my teammate to check in - he's dead. i keep sprinting, determined to finish the mission: set a demo charge at an ammo dump in the town. after a few minutes of tense running with missiles detonating in close enough vicinity to see them, i reach the edge of the forest, and see the town ahead of me.
directly over the clearing between me and my objective is the cobra, turning around for another run.
the helicopter noses around, and then i hear the chatter of machinegun fire, and ricochets to my right - the gunner has spotted me, and is trying to draw a bead!
i dive for cover behind a tree, peek back around, and then prepare to call for infantry support (the attacking force has no aerial vehicles). steady gunfire chatters in the distance, now joined by rifle fire from garrisoned buildings in the town, in my general direction.
after calling backup, i inch around the tree and level my rifle in the direction of the helicopter, just to get a look. the chopper is about 150 yards away, intermittently firing spurts into the woods around me. i zoom in close - i can see the pilot clearly!
i think quickly. if i die, i lose my potential as a distraction for a flanking movement into the town. if i can take down this chopper, we've just as good as won the town.. but instead of a rocket launcher of some sort, i brought only extra ammunition.
i make the decision.
with a deep breath, i steel myself and focus my crosshair slightly above the pilot's helmet. i fire.
quickly i try to refocus on the pilot, but can't find him. i zoom out. has he seen me? am i about to be perforated by 20mm rounds? but suddenly i scope onto the chopper: the pilot's face is a bloody mess, and the reason i can't focus well on the chopper is because it's already crashing!
the gunner ejects, and i blast him with my dragunov. the cobra soon falters, and crashes in between two buildings.
my team goes on to capture the town and complete that first objective.
Anyway my best gaming moment came also in OFP when I was playing Campaign Everon 0.97 online with 7 other people.
If you played campaign before you'll know how kool it is, basically it's 4 vs 4 an you gotta cap all the towns on the whole island. The more towns you have the more money you get you then use this money to buys soldiers an vehicles (empty ones mind). The soldiers fall under your command an you can have 11 at any one time to command.
You can deploy these 11 an let them do what they want then buy another 11. You can have 4 groups deployed an one under your command that makes 5x11 per person . Each deployed group is given a call sign an you can reclaim them at any time but again you can only control one at a time. Common thing players do is buys 11 soldiers then deploy them in a key town to defend it then move on.
Right know you know what I'm on about I'll tell you about the kool moment I had in the game, it came at the end where the team I was on (Soviets) had the US boxed in at their last town; their spawn point 2 of the guys on my team had 4 T-80 tanks apiece closing in on the final town while I had 2 Mi-24s full of spetz naz and the last guy had the same Mi-24
I parachuted all my men outa my 2 choppers an my buddy did the same, right over the last town then i circled round and had a look at all these soldiers dropping on the town and it was awsome as they was backdropped against the tank battle going on below.
That game took about 3 and a half hours to win but it was so satisfying as we had been on the back foot for a lot of them game and had even come close to losing at one point.

Marine Single-Player Campaigns, third level or so, where you have to go after your captured lieutenant on your own, with nothing but your good ole pulse rifle / motion tracker, straight into an alien hive. That level was just the scariest game experience ever. Especially once your Lt. kicks the bucket, and you find yourself at the bottom of the hive with lots and lots of angry aliens suddenly making a racket. The entire run back to the apc was a great adrenaline rush, being constantly tailed by aliens...Whichever people thought doom3 was scary, never played this game I assure you.

years back, I played Quake 3 lan games with a couple friends, basically the 3 of us against a horde of bots.
A couple times stand out. A friend was sniping up on a platform with the rail gun and I was on the opposite end of the map grabbing the flag. Every turn I made some bot would show up and burst into red with the passing of a colored stream of light. This happened the entire way back, very cinematic.
The other time, my other friend was on flag duty while the sniping friend and I wre on opposite ends of the map sniping from the raised platforms. At one point I was tracking one enemy and saw him jump up to my friend's platform. So you see the situation, my friend is looking down doing his thing when and he's blocking my shot of the enemy. So I pull off a desperate round and pick off the bot over my friend's shoulder. Immediately the guy looks at me and I hear him shout, "What the ***l do you think you're doing?" when he turns around, sees the red cloud and says, "oh..."

TFC:
- A team of 4 blues decide to rush the red base, together the soldiers storm out onto the bridge in the middle of the level when all of a sudden someone cries out; "THERE'S 5 OF US!!!". Panicking they all turn and shoot at the spy... or would've if the spy in question (me ^^ ) wasn't the OTHER soldier behind the one they picked out at random lol XD I stabbed one in the back and jumped off the bridge between the rocket trails giggling so hard I almost choked =3
- I was skulking around the blue base doing my usual when I noticed the team's main flagrunner going out for a capture. Grinning evilly I dressed up as a friendly scout and followed him from his base to ours. After dodging my own team's defences along with him we grabbed the flag and ran for our lives. As we ran from the base with fire hailing around us I waved my gun at them as if firing and covering my blue friend's retreat. Victoriously we stormed up through the blue base and I could almost hear the sigh of relief from my new blue companion as they took the last steps to the capture point. I wish voice comms had been around so I could've heard him wail as I knifed him in the back only a single step away from getting our flag... having been with him to the end I was the one who stole the goal from him at the utmost last second and oh how I cackled as I returned it to it's rightful place uncaptured XD
PSO
- The first time I went into the final battle; Dark Falz. Simply amazing =3 - The half hour fight I won against ultimate de rol le when I was probably far too low level to have done it that left me shaking for ages after lol - The time I killed something with 3 hits when the much much higher level hunter with me took the same to do likewise. I was a magic user; we're supposed to be crud with melee, not matching melee specialists almost 20 levels above us XD - The time a lobby of 30 people started fighting with each other over me o.O - The time a manic depressive took some of my items hostage and I had to talk them down from keeping them without revealing any personal details =o
CoH
- Once with a group we went into a warehouse full of vazilok (reanimated baddy thingies) and it went all wrong. I'd managed to slink into invisibility before it turned real bad and was standing with the dead while the hoarde of monsters chased the retreating survivors. I waited until the badguys were gone and resurrected someone only for the badguys to round the corner... they were coming back! I glanced at my dizzy and helpless friend and knew that she couldn't run away and even together we'd probably die. I dropped the protection of the invisibility and disabled some of the badguys only slowing them but giving the teammate enough time to recover. As the badguys closed the distance I stood between them and the recovering hero and merely said 'run...'
I felt pretty badass right there XD Best part is the surviving members and those who'd respawned and came back fought their way to us just before it was too late and we all survived =3

Second Sight(gamecube)(not out in america yet ^^)
about halfway through the game, there are two guards playing I-Spy, so using projection, i sneak up on them, listen to their conversation, then possess one of them. I aim his gun at his friend, who obviously isn't too happy about this, so i shoot him in the foot, cancel the possession, and watch the ensuing fight from afar, truly classic:D
Later on, in that same level, i couldn't get past this one part(damn metal detector), so i just ran right through, letting the alarm go off, then took cover behind a corner and waited for the onslaught. A few people come round the corner, armed with SMGs and some with shotguns, so i take them out. Rinse, clean, repeat. After about 5 minutes of non-stop fighting, someone comes out of the elevator behind me, with a shotgun, starts blasting me from very close range, i take him out, but am almost dead, so i start to use the healing power, and BAM, i get shot by another person coming out the lift, so i heal again. More people are coming down the hall, and i'm only on 25% HP! After wasting what must have been around 100 guards, i finally manage to give them the slip, and sneak into the end of the level.
I then retried the level and never set off a single alarm

Back in the day, i was part of a gargantuan game of TFC, it lasted somthing like 4 hours, the map was one of those "cap all the checkpoints" maps and the blues (me) had all but the red spawn. they held us off for hours, until i decided to be a little bastich...
I go from my normal "Engy" to a Spy. I go in under the radarand sneak into the base, sucess! Unfortuantely, heading for the flag, i see the pale face of death, in the form of a medic, 2 pyros and a heavy. I'm starting to freak out until the medic walks up and in globalchat, offers a heal, i say no thanks, and i slowly walks between the two pyros. The heavy, checknig his scoreboard, suddnely yells "We dont have a scout!!!" The jig is up: I pull out my knife and impale the heavy, i start doing a fulkl out sprint to their flag. The pyros start launching napalm rockets evewhere around me, lighting me on fire for a short period, with my health dropping, i dive for the flag....
There was much cursing from the Red team after that round
Mmm by far one of the best times I ever had was beta testing NS 3.0.

I happen to come across a poor alien who chose a bad place to evolve and I proceed to knife his egg...server crashes just as I kill him. I reconnect, we play for a little more, server crashes again. Reconnect, people start to catch on after awhile that killing the eggs crashes the server, so we decided to test it, and it's a sight you had to see to truly understand
Marine spawn, we build nothing, about 10-12 skulks rush our spawn through both of those sliding doors, and they all stop and instantly turn into eggs. Needless to say we all opened fire and the server crashed, but not before I got some of the best NS screen shots ever taken.
Of course I will never forgive myself for reformatting my hard drive and losing those valuable pieces of NS history...*sigh*
Gouranga! in the original GTA. The easy-to-find remote minibomb car kill frenzy in the second city, I think it was. God I played that one so many times... euuuurrrrrrn, uuuurrrrnnnnn, urrrnnnnnnnBLAAAAAAAAM Also the first time I saw my brother get the brilliant idea to stack 500 cars in a corner and damage all of them slightly, and then...blow one up. Chain reaction! So amazingly cool. Riding a superbike. VROOM VROOM, whoosh, suddenly you find yourself on the other side of the city, flying over the water at 500000mph
Once, in starcraft, perhaps the only LAN ever for me, my brother and his friend were too busy with the enemy to bother with me. So I had all the time in the world to use the tactic I always used in singleplayer games at that time. I built 2 rows of photon cannons and a huge army of dragoons. Hearing their reactions when they saw me was just hilarious. Unfortunately the dragoons died to the superior zerg computar.(we 3 vs the computer, yes. And a dragoon rush didnt do it. Amazing compared to now)
In HL. Nihilanth. Not having seen the cyberdemon in DOOM, I just looked up... and up.. and up... While I was staring at his face, deciding whether I should shoot or not, suddenly the platform crumbles. Thats all I remember...
Other times were when you fight with ze army men, and bullets are whizzing around the corner while you reload. Suddenly, they stop shooting. You wait, thinking they might be coming around the corner, only to find... plink, plunk, BLAM. Dead by grenade. Awesome.
Also I never dared to watch for long when my brother played Resident Evil. When you first encounter the Hunters there is a cutscene I believe. When that thing moved so bloody fast, I just walked out of the room before I got to see what it looked like or what happened
The first time I met the Ur-Quan in Starcontrol 2, after upgrading my ship to the max. Not too long before that, shortly before I upgraded my ship to the max(no cannon of DEATH or superdynamos and stuff), I had been pwnzorised into oblivion by a single Kohr-Ah ship(kohrah=urquan++ so to speak; trying to avoid spoilers). So you can understand that I was worried. I was amazed how easy it was... I didnt even get hurt since all I had to do with my rear-mounted gun was shoot and shoot and let the targetting do the rest. Truly a "HAHA YOU CANT GET ME STUPID COMPUTER" feeling of invincibility. (Shortly after that happened, I encountered a... less powerful race, and cocky as I am I don't make too much effort. I crash into a planet repeatedly and get shot to bits ...)
There are definitely more that I cannot remember right now. Like the kickass guild wars rounds and stuff.

Well Im pretty sure most people here are familiar with Desert combat for bf1942. Well I was playing the map gazala on a fairly large server. About 10 people each side. Well It's late game and I finally manage to take control of the super large aircraft the americans get at their airfield. The one that never dies and has the artillery cannon on it. So Im flying around with this thing having the passengers use the big guns to destroy anything on the ground. The plane starts getting low on health and most of the people have jumped out be then. So I get and idea, I fly up to the top of the map and start heading south directly towards the iraqi base while slowly getting closer to the ground. At full speed I set down at the far end of their runway. Without letting up on the speed I head straight towards their freshly respawned Helicopter and somebody mid takeoff in one of the planes. I smash into the plane first, as it was heading down the runway right towards me. Then I collide directly into their heli and 3-4 people standing around on the runway waiting for more stuff to spawn. Needless to say there was alot of foul language after that.
I of course learning the game, decide to try the MAXes out and I get the AA one for VS.... I use the HART to drop by Searhus..... and the coolest thing I saw.... There was 2 galaxies, 4 mosquitoes, and a few infantry on ground.... I saw this as the perfect moment to rack some massive kills up.... I ran up behind a hill waiting for the gals to move out....
Out of no where ( dunno why I wouldnt know ) my guys start storming them with all mosquitoes! I notice the two gals heading overhead trying to escape.... no mosq's escorting them or defending them.... I begin to fire my AA gun and boom there goes 1 gal, 7 guys dead!!! And the other gal I took out!!! 6 guys!!!

Oh man. The Chronicles of Riddick, opening cinematic.
Riddick is on the ice world and he's being trailed by a monster. It looks like that thing in the cave on Hoth in star wars ( ), except smarter and faster. Anyway, just before Riddick walks into his lair/den place the creature runs at him. Little does the creature know that it is the hunted and not the hunter
So it rushes through the doorway expected to see Riddick defensless, instead Riddick is hiding beside the door and clothslines the monster. It goes down hard. Knowing he can't take it in single combat he runs away while it is disorientated. The monster walks up and walks over the fire-pit in the middle of Riddick's cave and sees Riddick fur cape/cloak.
It lifts the cape to it's nose and sniffs it. The monster lets the cloak sldie out of his hands and glances around trying to find Riddick.
The camera then looks up where Riddick has his two daggers stuck in two salactites and is hanging from the ceiling with his googles off, so you can see his EyeShine. Just before the monster looks up, Riddick drops down and slams the daggers into it's shoulders driving inward to the neck. He jumps off pulling his knives out at the same time.
The monster reels backward in pain, bleeding from it's deep stab wounds. Riddick doesn't waste a second and delivers the killing blow.
City of Heroes, just deciding to test out my newly acquired Phase Shift, I ran over to Peregrine Island. *as lvl 22* Anyway it turns out im sitting there doing a little boogy dance in the middle of a Lvl 40 or so army of Nemesis. Good times.
In Deus Ex right at the start when you first go in UNATCO HQ. I go exploring a bit before going into the briefing. At this point I'm thinking "yeah ok this is a great game but why do people act like it's one of the greatest ever". Just then Manderly says "oh and JC stay out of the women's bathroom" Between my droping jaw and my laughter my chair starts to fall backwards. However I grap the table with my UBER L33T REFLEXS OF :ahem: sorry. anyway I was so impressed that my actions had an efect on the game world that I reload from before I went in the Ladies room and refused to go NEAR it for the rest of the game for fear of something bad happening to me. Not my avartar, ME.
Comments
'nuff said.
Game: PlanetSide Beta
Man that hallway was a nightmare. I dunno if you've gotten far enough yet but..
SPOILERS, if you havent played through it yet
Did you get to the enormous battle between mercs and trigens yet? It's basically a fort held up by mercs just blasting the hell out of an army (literally, an army) of trigens with rocket launchers and mortars.
No more spoilers. Rejoice!
There's so many!

my coolest videogame moment: operation flashpoint multiplayer, i'm part of a two man sniper team, moving toward a town objective about a mile away. a few minutes into the mission, moving cautiously at about 1 mile in 12 minutes, we run into a few scouts in a small but thickly forested area. we take them down quickly from afar, but receive sporadic counterfire in our rough direction, enough to confirm that they know our position.
we hear what sounds like carpet bombing going on at our rear - the enemy's called down an aerial strike on the small (maybe 4 acre) patch of forest. we quickly split up about 100 yards from each other, making our way at a sprint towards the town.
after about 30 seconds, i hear rotors, and then see a Cobra helicopter streak past at my left, about 70 yards out, letting fly the contents of its missile pods at the woods below it. i tell my teammate to check in - he's dead. i keep sprinting, determined to finish the mission: set a demo charge at an ammo dump in the town. after a few minutes of tense running with missiles detonating in close enough vicinity to see them, i reach the edge of the forest, and see the town ahead of me.
directly over the clearing between me and my objective is the cobra, turning around for another run.
the helicopter noses around, and then i hear the chatter of machinegun fire, and ricochets to my right - the gunner has spotted me, and is trying to draw a bead!
i dive for cover behind a tree, peek back around, and then prepare to call for infantry support (the attacking force has no aerial vehicles). steady gunfire chatters in the distance, now joined by rifle fire from garrisoned buildings in the town, in my general direction.
after calling backup, i inch around the tree and level my rifle in the direction of the helicopter, just to get a look. the chopper is about 150 yards away, intermittently firing spurts into the woods around me. i zoom in close - i can see the pilot clearly!
i think quickly. if i die, i lose my potential as a distraction for a flanking movement into the town. if i can take down this chopper, we've just as good as won the town.. but instead of a rocket launcher of some sort, i brought only extra ammunition.
i make the decision.
with a deep breath, i steel myself and focus my crosshair slightly above the pilot's helmet. i fire.
quickly i try to refocus on the pilot, but can't find him. i zoom out. has he seen me? am i about to be perforated by 20mm rounds? but suddenly i scope onto the chopper: the pilot's face is a bloody mess, and the reason i can't focus well on the chopper is because it's already crashing!
the gunner ejects, and i blast him with my dragunov. the cobra soon falters, and crashes in between two buildings.
my team goes on to capture the town and complete that first objective.

Aliens vs Predator 2
Marine Single-Player Campaigns, third level or so, where you have to go after your captured lieutenant on your own, with nothing but your good ole pulse rifle / motion tracker, straight into an alien hive. That level was just the scariest game experience ever. Especially once your Lt. kicks the bucket, and you find yourself at the bottom of the hive with lots and lots of angry aliens suddenly making a racket. The entire run back to the apc was a great adrenaline rush, being constantly tailed by aliens...Whichever people thought doom3 was scary, never played this game I assure you.

I played AvP2 and found the part where you have to weld open that door with a pratorian bearing down on you much scarier; the cinematic music added to the adrenaline rush.

Panicking they all turn and shoot at the spy... or would've if the spy in question (me ^^ ) wasn't the OTHER soldier behind the one they picked out at random lol XD
I stabbed one in the back and jumped off the bridge between the rocket trails giggling so hard I almost choked =3
Simply amazing =3
- The half hour fight I won against ultimate de rol le when I was probably far too low level to have done it that left me shaking for ages after lol
- The time I killed something with 3 hits when the much much higher level hunter with me took the same to do likewise. I was a magic user; we're supposed to be crud with melee, not matching melee specialists almost 20 levels above us XD
- The time a lobby of 30 people started fighting with each other over me o.O
- The time a manic depressive took some of my items hostage and I had to talk them down from keeping them without revealing any personal details =o
I felt pretty badass right there XD
Best part is the surviving members and those who'd respawned and came back fought their way to us just before it was too late and we all survived =3
There's tons more but I've typed enough already ^^;
Oh and Super metroid had tons of cool bits including the bit where the metroid almost kills you then stops and you realise it's the baby all grown up
- A team of 4 blues decide to rush the red base, together the soldiers storm out onto the bridge in the middle of the level when all of a sudden someone cries out; "THERE'S 5 OF US!!!". Panicking they all turn and shoot at the spy... or would've if the spy in question (me ^^ ) wasn't the OTHER soldier behind the one they picked out at random lol XD
I stabbed one in the back and jumped off the bridge between the rocket trails giggling so hard I almost choked =3

F-ZERO GX
Finishing the final story mode mission, after literally months of effort.
although i STILL have to unlock the AX cup D:

Game: TFC
I can't remember the damn name of the map but it's the one with computer core hive. So anyway a new patch had just been released q or maybe r or s or something and I joined the server and started to play.
The easy-to-find remote minibomb car kill frenzy in the second city, I think it was. God I played that one so many times... euuuurrrrrrn, uuuurrrrnnnnn, urrrnnnnnnnBLAAAAAAAAM
Also the first time I saw my brother get the brilliant idea to stack 500 cars in a corner and damage all of them slightly, and then...blow one up.
The dragunov has neither a crosshair or the ability to zoom in Operation Flashpoint

okay, sorry, RETICLE.. and by "zoom" i meant when you press V and use your sights.
Great stuff =]
NS: Not 3 minutes ago, a speedhacker named "The Hacker" came onto my server ... he went so fast it was rediculous, but I got lucky and killed him once (w00t for Beer aim) ... and after that I banned him
Fallout: **** off Rhombus was so much fun, and obtaining Power Armor for the first time, I never felt so invincible in a game.
I.S.S Pro Evolution: Playing as South Korea (Weakest team in the game) against my friend who picked Germany (One of the strongest teams in the game) and beating him 1-0, then almost seeing him throw his PS2 controller into the TV.
6 guys!!!
Damn that was cool

Damn that was amazing.
