Music Recommendation
<div class="IPBDescription">The Living End</div> I've had this CD sitting around for a while, it's mainly been in the trunk of my car gathering dust. I buy a lot of CDs then tend to not listen to them
Anyway, i've had this album for some months now, and until today i've not really listening to it, but wow....
<img src='http://www.thelivingend.com/images/discs/modart200.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
The album is <b>Modern ARTillery</b> by <b>The Living End</b>.
They play melodic punk, quite light hearted and with a double bass behind them, they have a great sound to them. Each song on this album is absolutely fantastic, they're a capable and extremely listenable band. They've got some ska in their sound, but on the whole they just rock.
Head over to <a href='http://www.thelivingend.com/' target='_blank'>thelivingend.com</a>, hit the "discs" link and listen to some of the album. I definately recommend the tracks "Hold Up", "Short Notice" and "What Would You Do?".

I think he means a double (string) bass, not a double bass pedal ... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Your description leaves me slightly confused. Describing a band as "melodic" "light hearted" "punk" "ska" and "double bass" all in one leaves me feeling that this band has no real stable sound and they change from track to track. I was under the impression that many of these things were mutually exclusive terms. Especially that whole "ska" thing. How the heck does ska work with double bass? I can't imagine double bass working with any sort of ska rythms, I would imagine you mean it just has horns (having horns!=ska all the time). And double bass is often rather iffy if not in its natural hibitat of Power-Metal (Rhapsody forever [satan hands])
But anyways, a friend of mine I'm going to be hanging out with later has a few of their CDs, I shall give a listen then and weigh in later.
[edit]upon further investigation, I am being told they have an upright bass, perhaps double bass was a typo?

"Come with me" is good by definition. Since it's got a more alive version of Kashmir playing in the background.
I honestly think that more than half of the people that see this will say it sux before even listening to most of it. People that think that *ALL* Bjork songs suck for example.
"Blood, Milk, and Sky" is a song that gives me new ideas for game related music videos almost every time I hear it.
EDIT: Ninja grammar edit.

Scary.... Quite a few of those songs frequent my playlist when I'm coding - both at home and at work (especially rammstein - I don't know why but it's awesome coding music)
The Living End is alright too... my sister has one of their cds which I used to listen to a bit (back when I lived in Australia)

It's called a double bass over here and I'm pretty sure thats what its called over in the US o_O.
Ya'know those big wooden things you see jazz guys playing on all the time...

I have never heard that referred to as a double bass. Always an upright, or sometimes a cello. The only thing that is called "double bass" over here are double bass pedals, or maybe one of those basses that are two basses in one and are kinda lame and you see in the movie Spinal Tap.
And upon listening to them, yes The Living End is rather good, and no they have no traces of ska.

Listen to either some of their older stuff or some tracks like "Putting Me Down" or "The Room". They're not doing full-on ska on this album, but you can definately hear the ska in their sound at times.

<a href='http://edition.cnn.com/video/us/2002/02/25/ashcroft.sings.wbtv.med.html' target='_blank'>John Ashcroft - Let the Eagle Soar</a>
A rousing, patriotic and hilariously campy tune composed and performed by no other than your favourite ultraconservative nutball, John Ashcroft. Delivered at the end of a press conference, this tune will leave you wondering if this is what they use to extract information from the Guantanamo prisoners. Americans, I offer my deepest condolences. After all, he is indeed your Attorney General.

Alright, I shall try to get my hands on those songs then. I have been absolutely DESPERATE for new music lately. Been looking everywhere for new stuff to listen too. Had some luck with random songs on songfight.org and whatnot, which is home to such awesome musicians as MC Frontalot and Frankie Big Face, but it's rather hit-or-miss.
Check out the <a href='http://www.songfight.org/music/say_the_word/futureboy_stw.mp3' target='_blank'>Futureboy</a> track on this week's songfight by the way, it's absolutely amazing.
