<div class="IPBDescription">How the hell?!</div> Okay, I thought I had it off.

Everything tells me its off.

Its not effin off.

Someone, tell me EVERY SINGLE WAY POSSIBLE to get v_sync to NOT be on, using the video card, and NOT through a game. I seriously need this gone- I've got a 256mb vid card and its running HL at 60 fps with my max_fps at 500(and developer 1 on).

    A) What kind of video card?
    B) 256MB of RAM. That means NOTHING. You could slap 256MB of ram on dog crap, and it'd still be dog crap. It's mostly a marketing ploy to get stupid consumers to buy a given video card, because it has a bigger number on the sticker. There are THREE games, TOTAL, that can use that texture memory... and Half-Life AIN'T ONE OF THEM. (Sorry, pet peeve)
    C) If it's a Radeon, make sure you go into the Advanced section, '3D' tab, and use the 'custom settings' checkbox.
    D) Why do you NEED more than 60fps, if that's all your monitor can handle? So it'll look fugly?

Card: Geforce FX 5600 256mb Version.

And Talesin, I was just saying that if I've got a card with that much Video Memory, it better be frickin able to play Half-Life at a higher fps.

My reason for wanting it higher is because all my games were performing like crap, not to mention there are special settings I want to turn on with several games that I can't because FPS is low enough already with v_sync turned on.

I'm okay with "Tearing" anyway, and the games look GENERALLY the same afterwards.

I recently ran into the same problem (earlier this week in fact). My solution was to go into the graphics settings and turn vsync ON, save the settings, close the window, then open the graphics settings again and turn vsync off.

    Worked like a charm.

I find that Radeon drivers tend to not update their settings when you change them. Like [WHO]Them said, toggling stuff on and off a few times can help.

    I despise that card.
Not that it's bad or anything, it's just marginally worse than the Ti4200(64MB, more proof, that Ram beans bugger all, just wish i knew that before i bought it :/) it replaced ( <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).

Go into desktop options, far right tab/advanced/look for vertical sync, make sure it is set to 'always off'

Uh, Narfwaffle... he's talking about the nVidia drivers. I've never had the ATi drivers 'forget' settings. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It's definatly not the card's fault, my old FX5200 ran at a constant 100 fps.

Are you running XP, cause if you are then there's the problem. XP disallows refresh rates of over 60Hz under OpenGL and some Direct 3D apps. You need a program to 'unlock' the capability.

    I used Refresh Force, and I suggest you do the same <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

  • raz0rraz0r Join Date: 2003-07-24 Member: 18395Members
I have XP, a 15" flat panel and am running in openGL
i can still have 100fps displayed

Problem with flat-panel LCD monitors is that they aren't good for gaming, although if you don't use it for gaming they are really great. If you are wondering why they aren't good for gaming, the motion blur is usually too great to handle when moving with fast-paced graphics, there are other common problems like interpolation and brightness, etc.

But yeah back to the original thread, download the new drivers.

More specifically download the ForceWare Version 56.72 drivers from the nvidia site(should be the most recent drivers). Install them, then go to your display properties -> settings -> Geforce3 tab(extra tabs on the left should pop up) -> performance and quality.

Then click on Show Advanced settings and then you should be able to see vertical sync, just turn that to off, that should fix your vsync problem.

Easy problem to fix, download latest windows gfx drivers from nvidia.

Go into the advanced options panel select refreash rate overrides, select overide refreash rates and set the last tab to the amount you want for all resolutions.

Since vsync caps your max FPS at your monitor refreash rate, increasing it gives you more FPS, put it to you max your monitor supports.
