"sticky" Mouse

Makes aiming so much harder
When trying to aim by moving the mouse slowly, the crosshair "sticks" and then jumps about 5 pixels in the correct direction. But if I move the mouse quickly, it works perfectly. At first, I thought I set some options wrong. Mouse filter was checked. It isn't Steam because I have other modifications that do not cause this problem.

nighthawk, you've been asked repeatedly to not tell other users that they've posted in the wrong forum. This makes the third time now, please stop.

But, try turning the mouse filter off.

I have had it off and on - same problem. In specatator mode, the mouse doesn't stick (the blue mouse).

Are you using a microsoft mouse / microsoft keyboard? IF you do then set type32.exe and point32.exe to High priority-mode via the task-manager. Problem solved.

I've had this happen as well a couple of times, but to be honest, it's most likely an issue for Technical Support.

coris, can you provide some additional information on why type32.exe and point32.exe would affect only NS, not his other mods?

Optional: This happens only in NS, and only at low mouse speeds? Hmm. If your system is close to its limit with NS, I can understand how setting type32 and point32 to high priority would help in that scenario, but if that's the case, then this would belong in tech support, not here.

Does this happen all the time? Did you have auto-aim on (and were you on a server that allowed auto-aim?)

Some system specs would be helpful in determining if this really is a problem with NS or a problem with your system. Specifically, system CPU, memory (amount and speed), graphics card, mouse (type and connection).

When you first load up Steam (even if it starts up with windows) go to task manager and change it to "Low Priority" (by right clicking on steam.exe) then load up a game of NS and see if the mouse still lags

Since this only happens for me in NS, I thought this might be the same problem. It might be because NS is CPU intense and therefore takes cpu-cycles from the mouse/keyboard drivers (point32.exe and type32.exe) and that's what makes the mouse lag. Setting them to high priority gives them more CPU power and therefore the mouselag is gone.
Try it and see if it works.

I'll try it, but I highly doubt it is because I am CPU or even GPU limited.

Specifications:

2.6 GHZ P4 with HT 533 FSB
512 DDR400 RAM
40 Gigabyte HD
128 nVidia GeForce FX 5200
Logitech mouse - 1 button on side, mouse wheel, dual optical
Gateway Keyboard

I won't try that point.exe thing, but I will lower priority of NS in Task Manager.

Try running dxdiag and turning off all hardware acceleration.

That solved my "mouse lag" problem.

Hrm. I didn't think to ask, are you running OpenGL or Direct3D for the interface?

OpenGL > 1200x1024

In all honesty, I've got no idea how to reproduce this. Three different systems, none of them exhibit this behaviour. I'm going to pop this over to Tech Support on the chance that it actually is something wrong with your system.

If you want to fix problems, you do have to be willing to trial and error. Just remember to reset to normal after a fix that didn't bring any change or the desired effect.

Also, they suggested setting steam to low priority, to leave more ressources for Natural Selection most likely. Setting type32 and point32 to high is just as easy a process, you pick out those running processes and force them into high priority - that simply means the oh-so-strenous task of processing keyboard and mouse input won't be delayed.

Theres no tangible risks in trying any of this, unless you somehow stick a fork in a wall socket at the same time.
