I know there are others available, but I found that combining a properly-located reticle with pips indicating the pellet impact locations created a crosshair that is both accurate and aesthetically pleasing.
Some may find the outer blips to be a distraction, but I hope someone enjoys this crosshair. No more using a magic marker to help you aim <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Simply unzip to /nsp/sprites to install. Make sure you back up your original files first.

this is basically telling the dev team they should actually do something about it, instead of people getting frustrated with it, and making thier own fix.
very useful.
I guess I'll use this for the time being anyway.
Kid #1 *puts dollar into dispenser machine*
*Soda-dispenser machine eats dollar, but does not give soda drink*
Kid #1 *repeats, with same effects until he runs out of dollars*
Kid #2 *kicks soda-dispenser machine*
*Soda-dispenser machine turns out a deformed can which was blocking the other cans from coming out*
*Soda-dispenser machine turns out the rest of the cans paid for by Kid #1*
Kid #1: "Man, I don't like this. It seems like an exploit."

Then dont use it.
Anyway, you nailed it, bull. The best way to get a bug attention is to make sure everyone is aware of it, and, if possible, able to benefit from any solution developed for it.
This crosshair is here for EVERYONE to use. Apparently some people have known that this is how the shotgun works for ages, but couldn't be bothered to tell anyone. That isn't my style.
Now that you all know and have a way to fix the problem for yourself, there is no reason to consider the fix an exploit. I'm sure there are people out there that are more than willing to think of outlandish examples which, on the same token, would sound silly (it's hard to hit skulks due to the hitbox problems! so everyone should use an aimbot to fix it.) but let's not be silly, okay?
This is here. I'm glad some of you like it.
I never miss shottyshots anymore.
if(sgxhair==pellet_specific){
marine.power++;
}
Seriously, these crosshairs overpower marines. A lot more than they already are overpowered.
Perhaps they would if the weapons behaved naturally <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<img src='http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~richens/shotty.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
as you can see the very bottom pellet needs to be moved over to the left <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That code wouldnt work dude...u've put an assignment in a conditional...unless u'r using C in which case u'r code would arse up neway.
remember == next time!
And for the last guy who posted the screeny...i thort the actual impacts were generated client side rather than server side and aren't a true representation of bullet spread.
yea i see what you mean, but then again when you have a skulk leaping straight at you i dont think you are going to be worrying too much about the tiny dot on the side anymore than simply trying to get a shot off in the big circle like you normaly would.

Only if you use cl_lw "1"
cl_lw 0 disables lag compensation and contacts the server for the decal posistioning. I don't suggest anyone uses this though except on a LAN, otherwise you will get a lag inbetween you pressing fire and the actual gun firing.
BTW in the screeny that is 8 shotguns shots into the wall <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

What are you talking about? Check my post again <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
that should be the official crosshair for next ns version, well a perfect one.
No one will say its and exploit!!!
But if it was me, Id give with ns : Bunny hop key, client side lastinv and maybe more scripts...then no one will talk about exploiting with scripts?!
I don't care if everyone has the same advantages to start with, then maybe newbies could'nt screem that its unfair.
I would even put a complete readme for modifying the config.cfg
Maybe i'm crasy...
People expect the shotgun blast to be random, and who in thier right mind would ever even contemplate bunnyhopping if no one told them about it, it goes against your instinct :E
I would like to point out that you are a silly man who is wrong. Plain and simple. I don't know why you would base your test of a crosshair on bullet decals, since they have nothing to do with what the server sees.
At 1024x768 I can promise you this crosshair is just placed almost perfectly (some of the pellets are off by a pixel or two, but I don't have all day to mess with it.)

Ok so you want ns to be more luck, less skill, less experience and make newbies better...go play cs if you want random. I already want to destroy my pc when I shoot perfectly or bite perfectly and not damaging the target. Hit boxes are random enough.
I hate LMG and hmg because of their spray shooting thats influenced by luck, I use pistol and shotgun cos they are ONLY skill weapons. I am an extremely skillfull player, and I own in every FPS exept in cs because of its arcade like aspect that makes low skilled players get head shots from bad shooting and skillfull players sometimes miss target because of random recoil spray.
If it was only me, i would make LMG and HMG shoot in a strait line but give more hp to skulk, lerk, and gorge. Then skill would be the only key of being the best.
Leave skill alone or I'll go back playing doom alone.
