Changing beloved RPG franchises into action-oriented console games is apparently not as profitable as they thought...

[edit]For people who want more info, No Mutants Allowed had pretty good coverage of info leading up to this. Duck and Cover is, sadly, now gone; they decided that now that Black Isle is dead, there's no more reason to maintain the site.
That's one way of looking at it. Honestly, my first thought upon reading this was "The witch is dead". I know it's mean, but Interplay lost much of its credibility in the handling of the BioWare BG issue, the direction it went design-wise, and then the horrible job they did dismantling Black Isle.
Make no mistake here, I loved many of the early Interplay games, and will keep the publisher releasing well crafted, intelligent, and mature titles, in best memory. Unfortunately, this publisher has been dead for several years by now. I will not shed a single tear for what followed - Interplays managment decided to try for the cheap buck, and now pays the price for that. All that's left for me is to wish all employees the best of luck.

In terms of the franchises, I can only say that this could be a godsend. Whoever will acquire the Fallout license will evaluate the past business strategy concerning FA, and will soon see that there's infinitely more money in the RPGs we all loved than in the strategy knock-offs.

My GOD your right! Whatever developer who gets a hold of Fallout now, no matter HOW stupid, will notice that Interplay slit its own throat because of its own stupidity in its final days.
They will have to notice that the only way to make the next Fallout title a good seller is by returning it to its original glory.
One can only hope...
However, there are many idiots in this world. I hope they don't get their grubby paws on Fallout.
DaC is now at TheVats.net the reason they moved was because GameSpy disagreed with some of the opinions the DaC writers had on FO:TBoS.
Anyway, I hope Fargos new company gets a hold of the FO liscence, this would make for happy Hodge.
