Save your money.
Just got back from the Gorillaz show at the Avalon in Boston. Granted, all the ingredients for disaster were there-- First off, it was an all-ages show (er, no offense intended to you youngins on the forum ), standing room only. Second, as I said, it was at the Avalon, which means it was drastically over-booked, started an hour behind schedule, and included thousands of sub humans sporting tons of attitude (I counted at least five people in my immediate vicinity trying to pull off sunglasses in a DARK CLUB AT NIGHT . . huh?) . . .
And while I really dig the design of the band's characters, the animation sucked, big time. In all honesty, it looked like someone did it in Flash. Lots of animations composed of less than a second's worth of frames, re-used in an obnoxiously repetitive fashion.
And hey, to borrow some material from David Spade, when you play 'Clint Eastwood', make it sound like it does on the album-- no tricks. We had to suffer through a horrible rendition, with completely new lyrics and rhythm-- which are in desperate need of a little more practice. It was horribly stilted and nonsensical, at points.
Granted, I'm not too into their music-- I had just heard terrific things about the production of their shows. Bottom line-- if you're a hard core fan of their music, it's probably worth it. If you're like me, you'll risk walking out midway through the show as well.
End of rant. Venting over. Feeling mildly better.

HOnestly, SoaD and Slipknot have very low-quality shows compared to Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson (can't stand his music, but I love his show). honestly, the best concert I ever went to was a Pantera one. stage wise you has two speaker racks about the size of a smallhouse, each. and that was it. it was the audience that made it up. imagine thousands of people in one huge mosh pit, just letting it rip. I've still got some scars from getting thrown into a guard rail
Slipknot was awesome at Ozzfest 2001, they vamped Eyeless, had everyone get on their knees, and when they said "jump the F*ck up!" everyone jumped and started moshing. RIpped some dude's nosering then. Still have it
maybe thats why i hang out with warm and fuzzy candy ravers ~;o haha, no im well on my way too being jaded.
as for gorrilaz, any band that incorporates someone from blur will always suck.
a supergroup concept that has worked out well is deltron 3030, with del the funky homosapien as head man... their sound is slighty similar to that of the gorrilaz but with a more true hip hop and creative flavour
I saw Marilyn Manson at Reading Festival (That's a UK music festival) in a less-than-solid state of mind, and I thought it looked great but I swear I felt as though I was a parent waiting for my kids to come out of the moshpit, as if it was some sort of pantomime. It was all I could do to not shout out "He's behind you!"
Possibly the most absorbing gig I've ever been to is Tool's London gig. That thing was monumental.
I saw Tool, and they are by far the best live act ive seen. I couldnt fault it in anyway...brilliant!
Wurm: I thought Damon Alban (sp?) was also in Deltron3030, i might be wrong but i'm pretty sure thats what I heard when the initial Gorillaz stuff came out.
