Image Intensive thread
I wanted to post this in a seperate thread than the one that had previously started about the 14 day free trial since it will be image intensive...

So anyway, I get star wars galaxies 14 day trial.. 2 gig download.. ugh. lengthy character creation process that just wasn't as interesting as City of Heroes's.

So I play through the somewhat interesting tutorial, trying to learn the utter horrid key config. I like the mouse interaction menus though.

So when you finish that it dumps you into tatooine. And the first thing I notice of interest is the absolute lack of clipping of large objects like.. oh say.. entire freaking ships.

But I mean if I ever need to hide from some dangerous thug or some Rebel Scum and their no good hooligans, I guess I could just hide inside a freaking starship Engine...

So I run around a little, fight a womp rat and die, and quickly become bored. I visit the famous mos eisley cantina only to wonder if the developers had ever even watched Star Wars...

However right before I quit I ran into a back alley figuring some level +42 gamorean rapist would be there I instead found this:

Which gave me a great idea for my NEXT character, and let me realize one of my life long dreams...

To be a Twi Lek stripper/prostitute!

So i make a new character, unequip all her clothes so I'm in my underoos, and start soliciting! However I had to run away quick because The Man (i.e. game mods) were keeping me down with demands like "PUT SOME CLOTHES ON". Pfft, whatever.

So I decided to expand my business to other, seedier areas less likely to draw the attention of authorties. I head on down to ye old Mos Eisley cantina, expecting to find a wreched hive of scum and villany (off of whom I could make a sizable profit!), but found much worse...

Some other **** stole my idea! There she was dancing for dollars like some coke'ed up barbie doll...

So there was only one way to settle it:

We had us a knife fight!

We ended up drawing a crowd of spectators eager to see 2 semi-nude Twi Lek's go at it with knives, so we eventually joined forces to earn a sizable profit.

Alas, I'm not the type of wierdo that could keep up such a charade for long (my "parter" apparently had much more experience in that area!) and so I decided to get my 4 gigs of hdd space back. But before I could go I had one last screenshot to grab:

And thus ends the saga of Star Wars Galaxies...
(Man I'm glad I didn't buy it)

Well, I'm still running around. The part that annoys me the most is the HUGE freaking paging times... I try to walk down any given street, and the game slows to a crawl, trying to page stuff back and forth between the HDD. No idea why, but it's extremely off-putting. Going to try running a defrag while I sleep, but not much hope is held considering the first time I ran the installer, it screwed my machine over. :b

Yeah, this is how my game went to... except for when I played it it cost me money... and I had 3fps until I upgraded my video card. Once I upgraded my video card the game crashed every 10 minutes or less. My guy also got stuck in a few places for hours at times too. Oh yeah I randomly got raped by monsters in the middle of the city too. There was also nothing to do....

Does anyone know if SWG actually has any content in it now? Last I checked it had like.. cities which serve no point except for trading, outposts much like orc camps on EverQuest, Giant robot pets which look cool and fit in your backpack, vehicles which make travelling too easy, and random large scale battles which.... wait I don't even know what the point of those were except for the "LOL COOL GIANT FIGHT ^___^" value... oh yeah, jedis which everyone can be also . Stupid non-existant jedi limit!

See, doing endless stupid **** in that game would be fun, if it was free.

Wow, you sure as hell had more fun with this game than I did. I wish I could clip into large objects that should be solid.

The reason it feels that way probably is due to the fact that all the players do there is kill monsters, any attempt at actual roleplaying is out of the question.

Well, you just gotta play on the right servers... I mean the roleplay server is not roleplay, it just has all the nubs who like to be llamas. There was like two servers which had a lot of roleplaying... can't remember their names though, but just ask any big SWG buff right now, they should know .

Well I was playing at a friend's house off of his account, so I really didn't lose all that much. But yeah, I probably did end up joining the nub server. I heard later on that a lot of the Rebels and Imperials got really into it on one of the other servers and that made me angry because I missed out.

So I guess I was just being bitter. I apologise, the game idea is quite sound, and I shouldn't blame the game for the players.

Hrm. So anyone actually know which the RP-heavy servers are?

Just put a bucket on your head and run around hitting it with a stick and yelling "I AM A JEDI MASTER". People will get what you mean.

That's arguable, actually... an MMO lives or dies by its playerbase. If that playerbase is a bunch of smacktards, then any chance of a social experience in the game is lost.
