I admire guns not because they were designed to kill people (I despise them in that way) but because I recognize their blend of aesthetic and power. Its like the sleek, curvy assassin in movies. So smooth but underneath that there's undeniable power, there's real worksmanship, determination, and function. I admire how a gun incorporates ergonomics, looks, and purpose. That's it, purpose. I look at a gun and I see that every little knob has a purpose - a fire selector, an adjustable sight - and then when you zoom out all of those little details become tiny, and they're part of a bigger idea, a conglomeration of purpose and visceral fulfillment and beauty.

    Also,

because it's a mini version when compared to other gatling guns like vulcans

As for favourite guns....lever action Winchesters shotguns. They're so damn classy (especially when they appear in a game and they do that "spin-the-gun-and ready-it-for-the-next-shot" thing. That just rocks.

BTW, what's the difference between liking a gun "in real life" and liking one in any other sense?

#1 - MG-42: 1200 - 1300 rounds/min. I <i>think</i> it's the fastest non-minigun firing rate... but i might be wrong. Also because it was the base model for the Smartguns [i think, cant remember properly] in the Aliens series. (yes, i'm serious. just look at it! doesn't it look similar?) As well, it doesn't have any overly-insane firing rate, like the miniguns do, so you could <i>technically</i> carry a backpack of belt-fed ammo goodness (though it would be heavy) and shoot it up for minutes... 1200 rounds later. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

#2 - FN P90: looks seksy and has a niiice magazine size. Reloading doesn't look like a chore nor would it happen much, either, considering it might be able to go through kevlar...

#3 - Jackhammer: A fully automatic shotgun with 240 rounds per minute?! That'll blow any part of whatever the hell you're shooting at off and out of it's body... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

From sheer gaming experience: the FN-FAL for being above average overall, and the AK-47 for power and ease of maintenance/reliability. Both also have the benefit of fairly common [read: cheap] ammunition, which guns like the H&K G11 can't boast about.

Favorite for personal use: give me a compound bow. Guns for US civilians only serve two purposes these days: committing crimes and taking all the challenge/honor out of hunting. Sure, Native Americans had less technologically enhanced bows than even compound bows, but there's still no arguing that either is better than a gun.

[edit in response to some posts below]I'll correct my above statement by saying it doesn't take away *all* honor and challenge in hunting if you use a gun. I'm still certain it removes a certain quality to the experience that I personally find important.

You do know that in a majority of states a 21+ year old with a clean record can get a permit to carry a concealed firearm, right? Self defence isn't a crime, just make sure it's a last resort.

<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You do know that in a majority of states a 21+ year old with a clean record can get a permit to carry a concealed firearm, right? Self defence isn't a crime, just make sure it's a last resort. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
If you want to make a thread in the Discussion forums about it, I'll be happy to post a reply, but I think we've seen enough gun control threads there to know most people will just stick to their opinions through the end.

Back on-topic: I recently heard that trying to promote a gun for a slightly larger magazine size is useless, because the poor spring mechanism often means that (example not gun-specific) you'd only load an mp5 to 25 rounds instead of a max 30 if you knew you'd have a more extended period of time before a firefight. Is this true?

not always true... but it's good to replace your magazine spring every few years anyway.

k... i just get so angry when people say that guns are bad because they're designed to kill. it's a ridiculous point to make.

Honor in hunting? I thought hunting was to get me food. Does it taste different when killed "honorably"?
