^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ive been playing NS for a while now - i find that im doing really well as a marine (in the combat games i'm nearly at the top all the time) but really rubbish as an alien. i can never seem to kill anyone efficiently. when im a skulk i kill a few but i never manage to kill anyone with one bite as i've seen other do. as a gorge im ok but i think thats just because i've got some kind of a projectile weapon rather than melee ones. i seem to either die very quickly or never die and never kill anyone.
any HELP?

I know what you mean. I have been away from this game for a while and it took me a while to get the hang of that whole biting thing again.
The only way to learn is to practice. But I suspect the problem is that you never get close enough to do that.

Here are some pointers though.
First off. It´s not that common that you get one bite kills. When you see that happen the victim have most likely been injured allready.

1. Learn how to hide. You will find it alot easier to attack an unaware foe. That will get you some extra bites to practice with.

2. Try to follow another skulk or whatever. Let him go first an draw fire and then you try to attack in the rear.

This should give you some extra biting practice. Once you get the feel for how to make your teeth connect with the intended target you can go head to head.

Another pointer. Don´t attack first off if you find a lone rine. Dodge around and make him waste his ammo on a hard to hit target. A reloading rine is an easy prey. It´s all about getting past those bullets.

When it comes to the bigger aliens it´s mostly about keeping tabs on your health and knowing when to bail.

Hope it helps. Good hunting.

thx for the reply - they're some really good pointers.

i notice that the marines travel a lot more in groups than the aliens do. so maybe its simply easier to get better as a marine then it is an alien.

I think the one bite kills you are talking about is caused by the upgrade focus With focus you can kill a level 0 armor marine with only one bite.

you mention dodging the marines bullets - is that just by strafing?

yeah I think what Thanatos- is trying to say is, never EVER run straight forward to attack a marine.

As a skulk jumping is your friend, you don't loose speed or stamina and if you get good you can gain speed (different topic totally)...

There is no reason that you HAVE to run straight at a Rine, ever....if you can help it, always try to flank, drop down on, or circle around behind teh rine....

My greatest asset as a rine is to have a skulk run straight at me down a long hall, I will take you out before you get there and still have 50 rounds in my LMG (called pistol)

So when a skulk, think about being like a Ninja...always attack from the shadows.

i dont know if its a good strat, but what i do when i come up behind i rine, once im almost in bite range,or in it,i start walking, because i think its easier to keep biting than if you keep running,i tend to sometimes end up running past them on accident

If you want to kill marines in 1 hit get Focus (best do this in combat)

To kill marines easy on low levels first off attack as a group to level then attack their spawn for like 10 seconds this makes you level like crazy on level one, then run as they respawn then get focus increasing your damage dramatically, the its a mater of your skill to hide and dodge, try hiding right above a door way then as they go past drop down behind them or on them and bite= on dead marine, be careful though, wait a few seconds before attacking just to see if there are any other marines following him, the easiest way to do this is with sense fear.

Big tip people tend to forget - don't hold down the attack button. Time your bites precisely so your vision is obstructed by the bite animation for as short as possible. One way of doing this is to get focus, but I find that after you get good at timing your bites focus is not only unnecessary, it actually is inefficient against HAs, not to mention any marine with any armor upgrades (takes less time to kill with normal bites than focus.)

The only time I ever take focus is as a lerk facing very good jetpackers with resupply. It's easy enough to catch them and bite once, but they'll almost never let you get two bites in before they get the health pack. Focus is almost essential to killing these jetpackers quickly.

according to the manual focus is additional 50% dmg per lvl and -33% speed per lvl.

means at lvl 3 you have
1x1,5x1,5x1,5 = 3,375 times damage and
1x0.67x0.67x0.67 = 0,3008 times the speed
which leads to an 1,015 times your base damge over time.

Focus gives you therefor an advantage of about 1,5% dmg over time.

BUT if we have the situation of only one bite needed to kill focus is the favorite.
And you dont need Adren as you dont run out of energy while focus biting.
And you render em ressuply rines useless (no matter if co or ns).

Are those numbers up there still correct (i took em out of the beta3 manual)?
