Dawn Of War!

WH40k RTS
Looks like Warhammer 40k is finally going to have a video game that lives up to the original! I kinda stopped playing a couple years ago but what I've seen so far seems pretty exciting. Apparently you can play Space Marines, Chaos, Eldar and Orks, and they all have customizable colors and icons/banners.

Onto the goods,

A trailer has been released fairly recently... you can pick it up here:
50MB Quicktime
19MB Quicktime

A bunch of videos from E3 are available at gamespot:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/wh40kd...fwar/media.html

The streams are free but you need to be a paying member to download them...

And here's a pretty neat screenshot:

Had no idea about it before this.

Never really played/seen WH40k, but this looks pretty nifty, looking forward to it.

That guy with the powerhammer/thunderhammer w/e it's called kicked some giant dragon-like-****!

I'm gonna buy this game simply on the basis that there's an old guy with a dutty great hammer, who smashes dragon's heads in.

Oh heh, I posted about this on the RO Forums. I'm really looking forward to it too.

On a very similar note... Wow, I've never seen that screenshot of the jetpack Space Marines (Assault Squad, of course), glad I came here!

Thats onr thing about 40K while people may pass the game off as childish it has one hell of a setting and storyline behind it.

The thing I'm most peeved about Dawn Of War though is it doesn't feature the Imperial Guard which are the coolest army settings-wise. I mean we can all sypathise with a group of men forced into a war a little more than a whole load of genetically enhanced people in huge armour.

Plus the Imperial Guard ave tanks, and Kommissars.....
  • RuByRuBy Join Date: 2002-12-12 Member: 10732Members
I heard the imperial guard might play a small role in the single player mode... If this game becomes popular enough I can certainly see Relic releasing an expansion with a few more races. Either that or wait for mods to come up!

Nope, the chapter in the game is a successor chapter to the Blood Angels, not the Blood Angels themselves, hence no Death Company.

    </nerd>

I hate death company anyway for reasons which I won't go into now. *cough twentyfourinchchargerange* *cough*

I've always wanted a decent WH40K game. I may have given it up yonks ago (me and my friend had most of the codices between us, then they made the third edition :/) but it's a good setting for a game.

I'm wondering how the gameplay is going to turn out - I'm hoping for more RT Tactical than RT Strategy, but the video looked pretty...choatic. Very cool to be sure (those animations and models were lovely) but maybe not so fun to play. I'm reserving judgement until the demo, though, as I recognise that tactics wouldn't have made for as good a video. (:

Bzzzt, wrong. They're NOT a successor chapter. For anyone interested, the DoW foums are here.

I'd also highly recommend you watch the E3 gameplay video. You have to wait in que, and it weighs in at a hefty 141.56 mb but its well worth the download, being 17 minutes of juicy info.

i'm not a fan of WH40k, just never got into it. know pretty much nothing about it. BUT! one of the Old Fogies works for Relic. so if you have any questions (that he's allowed to answer) i'll pass them on. he does say that he's loving working on this project

Problem with Imperial Guard in the first game is that they're, well, rather tactically boring. Use squads as basically another layer of armour and use tanks to blown anything that moves to pieces. The 4 armies in DoW have a mix of shotty and close combat stuff, making them generally more interesting to play. What would be great would be expansion packs allowing for every army, but I doubt that would happen.

Is anyone else expected an easter egg where you can play as Squats for a level?
