1) No, nobody is meshing it.
2) People saying "I'll only do it if no one else will" is a good way for something to never get done <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

1st map done the barrel took me over two hours <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I hate when unwraps are triangulated. even more confusion. I think you should rethink your approaches to some of these pieces you've got unwrapped (that peice right around the barrel). looks like they could have a few pretty nasty seams.
i fixed the first unwrap cleaned it up alot but while working on the seconed one i found part of the model to be fubared realy bad its the little thing with the bolt going right through it its right behind the carry handle and infront of the back magazine im probably gonna need help mapping that or burncycle if its not too much trouble can you redo that part?
mhm progress.... nice so far <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

a) The gun is kind of hi-poly for HL1. Even if you had a machine that could run that thing HL1 engine maybe couldn't (already talked about on the first pages). It is always good to make the model playable by a wide variety of users at a decent speed, while still allowing the power users to get excellent frame rates.
b) It has way too many groups, 29 if I remember correctly.
c) referring to a; there aren't much people that wan't to use their time (in this case many hours) voluntarily to a thing that maybe wouldn't work.
d) The wireframe looks kind of.. a spider net. And again referring to a and c, HL1 may have some problems rendering it.
+ Some other reasons. I don't want this to be a flame reply. This reply is trying to be constructive, I hope
Maybe you should try meshing, then you would understand better
PC is okay for v_model. but yep... for p_ and w_ it's far too high... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
