No. Trust me, it can look hella worse on a lesser machine. (And now to go shoot myself for using the term 'hella'... )

w/ my 9800p I play farcry at 1024x and medium settings, it still looks beautiful and runs at 90 fps. pretty sweet.

lol oh yeah then i jacked the res to 2000x-something with ultra high everything and aniso max and aa max and it ran at 10 fps or so... but it was beeeautiful. at least when i wasn't moving hehe

What's better, 9800 Pro or 9800 XT?

Asus ATi Radeon 9800XT,256MB, TV/DVI-Out, Video-in

Is that the one you got DY3?

Outta curiosity, how are you finding your 9800 pro performance wise? I'm thinking after I get another full month of work under my belt, I'll be able to purchase one, just wondering if there'd be a significant boost over my current performance.

I would suggest wait for an X800 (whatever). Apparently their roughly 2 times as fast as the 9800.

No, I went for the Atlantis 9800 Pro 128 meg of DDR.
Everything runs great and i'm very happy with it.

I think the XT's are slightly better. Look about "Tom's Hardware"
but the more obvious way of telling which is better is to
look at the price...... usually.

they are awesome

personally i went for the 9600 XT Ultimate Pro

sounds fake i know but google it or look it up under Sapphire on here www.overclockers.co.uk

it doesnt have a fan.. it has a heatpipe instead... my games look better then my friends on an 9800 pro... but.. i have a 3 gig chip he has like 1.7 so i dunno if that plays part on smoothness etc

Just a quick warning to you guys who are considering
buying a card like this. Make sure you check what "Watt"
your current Power Supply Unit is.
Some Radeon 9800's (well, most) have a power splitter
cable on them. they're so damn good they need that bit
of extra jiuce from your PSU.

Mine was 300w but I thought that was too low and sharing
the power with various components and the 9800 Pro
was going to be risky.
I'm now on a 470w (these things are around £20 but a 400w
might work for £12-£15 via eBay) with a 12cm silent fan.

Do some checks before commiting the cash!
If unsure then ask here! There's plenty of Tech-Wise
forumer's here willing to help.

You know, this is my big frustration with games today. So many of them have all these pretty water shader/reflective effects... yet the general world itself (grass, trees, other textures) still look like *textures*. The first two shots are godly. Then I saw the third one and wondered why you stopped with the Farcry pics and went back to Halo or something.

Gaming companies need to make the *rest* of the world look as good as the water already does. Graphics companies need to tailor their chips to develop the visual aspects that are currently lagging sorely behind.

I noticed the exact same thing myself. Really, the ground/tree textures for Far Cry look sub-par compared to some of the other games out lately. This is one of the reasons I'm looking foward to Half-Life 2's graphics, not only does it have great looking water, but the textures also look nice as hell.

Take back EVERYTHING I said negative about the Far Cry engine, save for comments based around its scalability.

Curse you, All-In-Wonder Radeon 9200!

I ran Far Cry at maximum graphics in 1024x768 on my GeForce 4 Ti 4600 and beat the game at an average of 30 fps. Then I went back and played it on med graphics and got a smooth 60.

Good thing I'm getting a new computer soon. I will ownz0rate j00 with maximum everything, res, full AA and AF and... PHOTOREALISM HERE WE COME!
