All settings are max? Microphone recording volume included? (Control panel>sounds and audio devices>audio tab>sound recording section>volume button>microphone slider up to full)

Make sure Mic Boost is ticked. (Advanced settings under microphone thingy)

    It's all boosted and full.

I've got the same headset, and no problems whatsoever.

Did you only use MSN for testing? Let him record a small wav, or have a conversation with Skype to make sure that the mic is the problem.

btw we need an Off-Topic Tech Help forum...

Still no luck. Any chance it's just b0rked, or would I not hear anything at

is there a mute option? My old headphones had this mute option that didn't actually mute but just put the sound very very low. Check the headphones for that

Get a new headset? Try that and if same problem it's your friend's computer.
