Some Problems With Highest Resolution
Morning all,
I've just installed a new ATI Radeon Graphics Card
and its running fine as you can tell. Ok maybe its alittle
better than that
Anyways... on my GeForce FX 5600 I could set my Desktop Resolution
to 1600 x 1200 without any problems.
But since throwing this card in, I can't go any higher than 1280x1024.
I don't mean the screen flickers or anything like that, the option
to move the Resolution Slider is simply not there. The far right of the
slider is equal to 1280x1024.
Is there anything I have to disable/enable in the Catalysts Control Panel
to allow my screen resolution to go higher?
Please help poor Mr DY with this as it helps navigating through
XSI|Softimage alot easier.

It looks so nice...
damn you GF fx!!!
You haven't actually told us the make of your card, might be kind of usefull info maby?
Catalysts 4.5 (Latest)
The card came with one of those little stickers to go
on the front of my case. You know like the Pentium 4
and AMD Athlon sticker. I very very very carefully
put it on... with a certain degree of precision.
Right-Click your desktop, go to Properties | Advanced.
If there 2 Monitor Screen icons in the top window or one?
I seem to have 2.
Plug And Play Monitor on <Graphics Card Info>
Default Monitor on <Graphics Card Info>
Plug And Play option allows upto 1280x1024.
Default monitor will slide beyond 1600x1200 but clicking
"Apply" does nothing and reverts to Plug And Play
with the 1280 resolution.
I'll go hunt down that option shortly Varsity - thanks
for the sugestion.
No, what you need to do is go into the Advanced tab, under Displays, and click on the bar above your primary monitor (usually the upper-left of the four). That'll open the monitor options. You most likely need to disable 'use DDC information', then set the monitor's max resolution and refresh rate. This won't work for all monitors, as some DO override it (and windows will listen to the monitor and ignore what you want) with their in-built DDC settings, though that may only be for the refresh rate maximum.
If your monitor is being detected as a generic "Plug and Play Monitor," Windows could be trying to play it safe by disallowing any potentially risky resolution/refresh rate combos. It IS possible to damage your monitor by choosing an unsupported one.
Solution: go to display properties>settings tab (the place you're probably changing your resolution and color depth from). Click the "advanced" button, and click the "monitor" tab.
From here, your monitor should be either Plug and Play or the exact monitor you really have. If it's not exactly what you have, press the "properties" button, click the "driver" tab, and press "update driver."
From here, you want to "install from a list or specific location," and by "specific location" I mean "wherever you just downloaded the monitor manufacturer's drivers to." You won't be searching, you'll "choose the driver to install," so mark that radio button and press next. Press "have disk" and browse to where you downloaded/extracted the driver to. Keep following the directions as logically as possible, and restart your computer if asked.
By the time you're done, Windows should be detecting something more specific than "Plug and Play monitor," and will know which resolutions are safe to use.
resolutions but I left the refreshed at "Maximum
Detected Rate". Which was something odd like 120.
I'll go hunting the drivers when I get home.
I'm pretty sure its a P75... can't remember
for the life of me what brand name.
Thanks for the answers guys, this is all handy stuff :-D
I unchecked "Hide Modes This Monitor Cannot Diplay"
or whatever it says. Then 1600x1200 became available
but attempting to use that resulted in a black screen
followeed by "Out Of Range" being displayed on my screen.
So I knocked the refresh rate down to 60hz and it's now
displaying 1600x1200 fine
