Why Is My Ping So High?!?!?

when i play NS my ping is terrible...it ranges from 300-800. Its only for this game tho...when i play Battlefield Vietnam or any other online games its perfect. Anyone know??

First be sure no other program runs that uses internet; like kazaa... Then check for the network usage of steam from monitor window... Steam may be updating files...

Lastly tweak your rate settings using the guide at the link below...

What Gaz said. Just check and make sure your rates are set to something pretty high like 9999

To check what your rates are, open the console (by pressing the ` key up in the top left hand corner of your keyboard) once you join a server, then type rate.

If it gives you something like 3000 - change it to 9999 by typing rate 9999

those are the "rates" he was talking about and the expected values for dsl/broadband.

fps_max 100 might help also if it is some how low. This just sets how high your fps can go up to some people might have it on 50 or lower somehow.
