Texture Fade

<div class="IPBDescription">is there an easy way to do it</div> Ok im trying to make a map where the texture fades from metal to black to simulate a deep pit kind of thing. I guess i could make a really deep pit and use lighting affects, but i would prefer something like the cliffs from ns_hera that faded to black. I wouldnt call myself a noob mapper, i can create architecture easily and im ok with lighting, but im not too good with textures. Is there an easy way to create a texture that fades, ie take the original texture and somehow fade the bottom or top of it? I have paintshop pro and intend to reget wally (had to reformat), but im not too good with graphics programs. Just wondering if anyone can help me out.

PSP8 has different brush shapes, theres a couple in there that could make very nice faded effects.

take the original, make the bottom quater black, and decrease the opacity as you work up (or just dont have as much black). My opinion is that the texture should only be a quater faded, then you just stick a black texture on the bottom.

If you have photoshop it should be really easy. There's even a tool to create an effect like this.

If you've got paintshop pro, then I think you'll have to use a vertical brush at a high size with like 10 hardness.
