A way to control winamp from STEAM.
This is a very tidy program i've been using recently, it's called stAMP or STeam AMP.
It's a little buggy, but i've worked them out and included the required files into a rar archive. It's hosted @ www.arach.net.au/~azap3730/stAMPv056.rar

This is _not_ detected by VAC as a cheat, so you don't have to worry about getting banned

First of all you'll need some instal instructions:

Unpack the contents of the rar archive somewhere. You will need winrar to do it.

Copy GDIPLUS.DLL, MSVCP60.DLL and RICHTX32.OCX to you're windows\system folder.

Go to start > run and type "cmd", then press enter so that you are presented with the command prompt.

you need to press enter after typing "regsvr32 c:\windows\system\RICHTX32.OCX"
That command will load richtx32.ocx to windows, so that stAMP will work properly.
If it doesn't, then you probably mistyped the location where the ocx is located.

Next, run steam amp and type in the email address / username that you use for STEAM, as well as pointing it to you're winamp instal. I've been using stAMP with winamp 2.91, but i've been told it works up to winamp 5. Then you just minimise it, it sits in you're task bar and does its job when you press the hotkeys

I've found that this program doesn't just work with STEAM, it also works with warcraft 3, TFT, generals and most other programs / games. What flexability hey

Any other problems, post here or PM me.

Another way to control WinAmp while playing, is to use the built-in customizable global hotkeys that are included in WinAmp 5. No installation required (except for WinAmp itself, of course).

Im with WA5 myself. Easy and simple, no side install, a short 5min preparation and youre good to go. I use a simple keyboard setup and got access to most options wanted: volum, play/pause, track up/down and media playlist up/down (though I tend to avoid that last one due to its amazing size)

WA5 is fine system-wise and is stable. For WA2, try to look remote control plugins. As for WA3, change player

Another plugin for you iPod users: ml_ipod plugin (though I personally stuck with regular iTunes)

Personally I'm sticking with 2.91... WA3 is just a skin for windows media player. Honest. If you ininstall WMP, WA3 will no longer load. And WA5 still carries a bit of the funk from 3, albeit a bit improved... I just got annoyed when 5 uninstalled 2.91 from my laptop, rather than going into its own directory as it was told.

Or you could just turn on the hotkeys in winamp and use it with those.....

Or you're like me and use iTunes, with fully customized playlists set up for each game you like to play with MP3s in the background... There has to be a day in my past when I stopped discussing and customizing games to have more fun playing, and started playing games to have an excuse for discussing and customizing them...

i think the easiest way is to minimize and then fiddle with your mp3 player

How about...you don't listen to music at all and actually play the game?

There's your better answer right there my friend, learn how to use them and you won't need STEamp. With the global volume keys, it also allows me to increase and decrease my games volume as I see fit!
