I _think_ the sharing security is done internally, but if it is not, it should have a program that can set the password etc. For bandwidth limiting try <a href='http://www.netlimiter.com/' target='_blank'>Netlimiter</a> which can limit programs, or <a href='http://www.bandwidthcontroller.com' target='_blank'>Bandwidth Controller</a> which can limit his IP (90.0.0.x or whatever) to a certain bandwidth.

netlimiter will not work to controll your bro's computer (it only works on the installed comp)

    <a href='http://support.dlink.com' target='_blank'>http://support.dlink.com</a>

    RTFM?

That will tell you how to open/forward ports
To know WHAT ports to use, check the faq/manuals for the desired program.

    For security:
    RTFM

Trust me, all your answeres are probably in there (out side of possibly throtling your bros BWidth)

We WILL Turn you in to a knowledgable computer user if it HURTS you!

I had the same questions when I setup my wireless network at home. I turned to the gurus at PC Mechanic. Here's a link to a great set of instructions:

Kuper, unless you have an upstream Linux box to install the HTB3 module patch to, it's unlikely that you will be able to 'cap' his bandwidth at all.

Second. WAPs are extremely insecure by their very nature. It takes less than lip-service to get by the standardized encryption in the 802.11x setup, and passwords are a joke. It's asking for a wardriver (walker, skater, biker, busser) to wander by and stab you in the head... metaphorically speaking. There are harsh methods (discussed below) to do it, but they don't work on all WAPs.

The only real way to secure a WAP is to do it with another piece of hardware... when I have to set up a node, it gets a set-aside ethernet port which is blind to the rest of the network, and has packet-logging running.
(If someone wants to use my WAP illegally, that's wonderful. I have a warning disclaimer. And I track everything that passes through the system... URLs, passwords, e-mail addresses, all the rest. If they're particularly obnoxious about trying to get out of their box, it's pleasant to see that any e-mails they send get added to please-spam-me lists)

RTFM, see if you can find how to lock the WAP to the MAC address. The MAC address is like a 'serial number' for your network card. Each one is different. If you lock the WAP to only serve to your and your brother's MAC addresses, and drop all the rest, that'd probably be the best way to go about things.

Note: You still can't limit his bandwidth. It'd need to be a function of the WAP, or a function of a machine directly upstream of the WAP (assuming the WAP is NOT running in NAT mode.. if it is, you're SOL).

Bandwidth control is done by having an actual server for your network, through which your connections run. I really doubt you want to go through the trouble.

As far as "security" goes, you can enable WEP, which is cruddy. I don't bother. If anyone steals enough bandwidth from you to cause trouble, it's perfectly easy to ban their MAC address.

If you turn off DHCP (make one computer like .50 and one .51), you might be able to just disable all the other IPs on your network, depending on your hardware/firmware.

You're also forgetting the most obvious solution: if your bro causes trouble while you play NS, you can go bonk him on the head <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> Your house is not anonymous.

i would at the first chance i die due to a lag spike but
not when he has a good 70 lbs on me and works out all the time.

right now im on his computer and here i am scanning for virus :X and he has 2 right now im not sure which ones since its online scanning.

will these virii affect my system at all?

    posibly.

Just run regular virus/spy/adware scanners on both comps.

you are also behind a hardware firewall so are much less likeyl to get screwed.

If he gets a virus, there's a good chance you'll get it too. Even behind a hardware firewall... or I should say 'especially'. If he's enough of an idiot to download something that's infected and run it without a scan, it can easily jump to yuor machine. Sure, it'll protect you a bit better against worms... but nothing will guard against idiocy.

RTFM, kuper. Look for how to limit access to specific MACs. Find your and your brother's MAC address. Only allow those two to access the WAP.

If your brother doesnt know computers very well, you can install a remote access program on his computer and make it start on windows boot. When he bothers you with pr0n downloads or whatever, just shut down his computer, he will never know what hit him.

<a href='http://www.realvnc.com/' target='_blank'>RealVNC</a> is a nice program to do this.

Alternatively, you could access your router and block all internet services to your brother's computers. There are many ways to get around his body mass. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    RTFM:
    Read The Friken Manual.

We can tell you the general idea, however you then have to go and do some work for your self.

I gave you a direct link to the knowledge base for your specific company.

go in there, and search for things like:
    fowarding ports
    MAC address
    Security
    etc etc etc.
