<div class="IPBDescription">Variety of Topics</div> Hello everyone, Im new and looking for some answers

Firstly, Is there any kind of story behing NS? or is it just human killing aliens?

If you bite a marine in the head, is it an instant kill?

Is there any place in particular i should be aiming on aleins? like the head of an onos or skulk?

Lastly, Im pretty good in co, normally being high up on the kills for marines and midway for aleins (im working on it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) and im thinking of playing some real ns, but i don't know any strategy. Is there any place i can find some strategy for marines and aleins?

thanks in advance

You shouldn't need strategy on ns if you have a good comm, main thing is get res, get upgrades, get a hive, kill aliens.

There is no localized damage in NS... lowers the randomization of hits (which is a good thing)

aim at the back half of the skulks

the waist and below for the fade

Is there any reason for aiming there? easier to aim there or a larger hitbox?

Actually has to do with some hitbox bugs..

When fades crouch their animation doesn't change but the hitbox is that of a crouching fade, so the top half of the animation is empty...

And skulks hb is beefy in the back, non-existant sorta in the front...

Like he said, don't worry about the strategy. If you're a marine (and to a far lesser extent if you're alien) you can leave that part to the people who already know it, until you've got a few battles under your belt. Just try to go 'rine whenever you can, and you'll learn the general idea fast. Then, once you've got a hold on things, you can try alien and actually learn the maps.

The backstory behind NS is in the old NS manual, which is <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/manual/index.html' target='_blank'>here</a>.

Best advice for anyone new to the game who wants to learn stuff about the game fast - read these forums. All of them are useful; obviously there is the kharaa and marine strat forums, but also you can read a bunch of ideas in the I&S forum and a lot of game theory is discussed there in between the flames and such (such as why or why not the idea is balanced, overpowered, stupid, etc).

But mostly just surf the forums to gauge the general opinion of the community towards different strats. It helps if you know what exactly the com is doing in the chair, and why you have to defend res nodes and such...you'll learn it all in-game eventually, but it's a lot less painful if you go in with a bit of knowledge.

    Yes, I did just post a valid reason why the I&S forum still exists...I believe that's a first <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

[edit] oh btw love the avatar, that's Hermes right? [/edit]

Another good advice is listen to your team... if they say to defend the hive, usually there is a good reason and you should listen to them.

    Ps: yes that is Hermes.

ya 5kyh16h91, it is hermes, who was a greek god. And, if all goes according to plan, i'll be one day <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

but back on topic, i've played a few games as marines and i found that if you listen to your comm and play smart, the game isn't as complicated as i originally thought. aleins is a different story though...

i was reading these forums, but some of the stuff is "co = bad" and other useless stuff. But, i must say that there are some good stuff in the kharaa and marines strat forums. i prolly should have looked there first.

thanks again everyone, been some good advise given and one day, i'll do the same to a n00b in need.

things like "Co = bad" is just people's opinions... a lot of the long-term players of NS don't like combat because it has attracted many "CS kiddies" - people who play for frags and frags only...

like every one said, easiest way to learn basic stratagies is to just play the game - as long as you try to do what you're told then there won' (usually) be a problem

99% of the problems with beginners is that they join the game, and have no idea what is going on, and then don't even ask / listen to what people advise them to do. you sir, are clearly an exception! (yay)

just get on the game, ask lots of questions, and listen to what people tell you - do that, and you're every one's favourite nub <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

If you don't know the strategy your com is following, you're gonna lose and your com's gonna be REALLY frustrated and/or ****.
