Different Protocol?

this may be a newbie question, but I just dled ns and got it started, but when I tried to join a server, it said that I had a different protocol than the servers. This happens with any server I try to join. How cna I fix it?

    46 = HL under WON
    47 = HL under Steam
    You probably tried to join a Steam server with WON, or the other way around.

    how do you join a steam game? (I've dled the steam thingy and installed it and created an account, but I don't know what to do next).

    Install beta 3 into steam, steam apps, youremail, halflife, then beta 4 and beta 4a. It ought to appear under 3rd party.

    either; join some irc channels and get ip's of clan servers (recommended :x)

    or just go click the internet game tab and filter down to NS only, and pick one and hope you get lucky


    - (right cilck steam icon bottom right, click "servers" ... etc)
