<div class="IPBDescription">GRRRRrrr</div>Damn it. You all know how I used to love COH.
I pre-ordered it like a week in advance. I even paid for all of it so I wouldn't accidentially blow my funds on stupid things like food so I could be sure I could have it the first day.
So I get it, and I have an absolute blast during the 3 day head start. So I go and get the game the day after it comes out (I was busy w/ school reports the day of release) and rush home only to find that my account cannot be activated because their damn scripts won't accept my credit card.
So i e-mailed their support because rather than just taking it back and getting a refund (something I'm not even sure if EB does anymore) I choose to believe the issue could be resolved and so I kept trying with their support line. Bad mistake. Their support staff basically just repeated over and over again "keep trying it". They eventually decided on I should just there all day and try random combinations of whatever my address might be typo'd as, refusing to even consider that the problem is on their end.
Then I moved, so I waited about a week while my bank changed to my new address and tried again. Same problem. Same stupid answers. Funny how if my credit card is so screwed up I can buy things from every other web site...
So now I've just asked for a refund. I'm sure I won't get it, I'll probably just get the shaft and be out $60, but you never know.
Moral of the story? Do not buy city of heroes. Its a great game, but their support team is unwilling to help the customer and when their crap breaks they don't care to fix it.
Do not buy city of heroes. Or if you do still want to buy it, please buy my copy from me. I'm poor and need my moneys back. :X

/me wishes it would have worked (DOOM was fun to play with)
Err...how do you figure? Lets look at the facts:
Unreal Tournament 2004. Full settings, advanced settings(through use of the ini file) all the way to the point of even the "Test" openGL engine in it. I get a solid 20-40 frames. No matter how many things are onscreen, how many things are HAPPENING onscreen, no matter anything, it never slows down my more than 4-6 fps.
Lineage 2. Full settings, no tweaking of ini to make it even harder, and usage of usual D3D. Solid fps of 5-25, with a average of 12. Turn down clipping plane half way. 14 fps. Turn it to least of all- 15 fps. Turn off deco layer(aka, grass/bushes and such)- 18 fps(on top of all clipping down). Turning of Textures to medium quality- 23 fps. Low Quality- 25 fps. Notice- this is in AVERAGE AREAS, NOT TOWNS, NOT SHOPS, NO SPECIAL EFFECTS NEARBY. Just rolling hills. Finally-the kicker.
800x600x16(tweaked ini to allow 16-bit)- 134-168fps, solidly.
Now, is it me, or is this maybe not even just a pre-UT2k4, but a pre UT2k3? Maybe a year or 2 beforehand? Did they forget to optimize? And notice, its not because of a "weak computer"- P4 2.0ghz, GeForce FX 5600 256mb, 1280MB DDRRAM, ASUS mobo(to allow up to 2.6 w/HT), Audigy 2 sound card. This isn't your "average pc", or even a "good pc"- this is a DAMNED good pc(still not the finest, but DAMNED GOOD.)
And to be honest, during the PT, entertaining was not the word. It was overly slow. You'd kill 3 things, then spend twice as much time healing. Warriors could take just as many hits as Mystics(and while this could be its own gameplay dynamic, I fail to realize why this would make sense when the armor rating on the Warrior class' armor was 4-10 points higher than mystic's, and it still did the same damage). All the way to lvl 20, I found absolutely no encouragement to join a clan other than to watch the humungous(sp) battles(that no one on the planet could run), and maybe getting a castle(though, I don't see how that'd be very interesting).
I dunno. Seems to me like it was seriously lacking.
Now, CoH on the other hand, kicked ****. I loved it. I only wished I was into Comic Books and stuff- anime helps and all, but FFXI still takes my share of the cash.
