I'm Going To Try Day Of Defeat...
Any tips?
I mean, is there anything I should do/avoid doing so I don't look like a total nooblarcaekzorz?
Before you say it, I've already read the online manual. I'm one of those people who find game manuals extremely entertaining to read, and always read it before playing.

Always watch your back as a sniper, you may find that the entire server will burst out laughing when they see you get spaded/knifed.
Keep an eye on who's near you. If they get pwnt, then get ready to fight.
Cant really say much more then that, apart from judicious use of nades and making sure you have at leat 2 capture points. I havent played DoD for... Ages...
I know it's random, but mantrid you just got lots of points in the respect list, manuals are fun and cool, not to mention give you lots of background
Back on topic though, the Grease gun and any of the "Weaker" Automatic/Semi-Automatic weapons are in fact quite good once you've learnt them. The grease gun is almost a sniper rifle if used correctly, but wont do very well in a close range prolonged firefight.
Aim for the chest and pray for the best...
I did quite a bit of sniping on Opposing Force multiplayer, and was pretty good on scoutsknivez (CS, *Shudder*), how different is it from that?
The scope fades into view, it may take you a few seconds to actually see anything. You have some neato crosshairs, just aim where the crosshairs point. If you have a keen eye, you may even see some of the lens effects the DoD team put in there (you will know it when you see it).
The view through the scope shifts a little bit up and down and side to side, you may have to learn how to compensate for that. There are some prime locations for sniping, but you'll have to learn the maps well enough to know where they are.
Once you've played DoD for long enough, you'll even be able to tell the difference between the Allied footstep sound and the Axis footstep sound. I'm not sure on that by my brother did say he knew the difference and he has never been shovelled so...
Also, it may be prudent to go Master Sergeant with the M1A1 thompson. It's a fairly good allrounder and will give you the mobility and combat ability to navigate the maps.
Also, try both sides. The Kar is a VERY good weapon if used correctly (not to mention the bayonet secondary is quite useful in a close encounter).
Damn I'm a windbag, better get to testing out Paroxysm...
Last time a played DoD (month or 2 ago) the Carbines were rocking it up hard.
Basicaly they make good assault weapons as well as long range fighting.
Personaly, I love running around city mpas (I tend to learn city maps REALY fast <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->) and just charging around like a psycho, and the carbine is GREAT for this <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
just pop off like 3-5 shots as fast as you can and, if you fast enugh, you will have one dead OpFor.
DoD is a great game, again, ruined by the players <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
pray yah find a good server.
And as an ally, perhaps the garand? I've always found it to be more than sufficient to get on slaughterful rampages. And the stock-club that they've added can be quite useful and will often kill in one hit.
Good luck <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The Warcraft 1 manual, as well. Divided in half, one side Human one side Orc, and both with lengthy backstory bits <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The easiest allied weapon to get used to would be the Thompson, it's basically a good close range weapon, and if you're prone it can do good over long ranges. The weapons are fairly nicely balanced.
Always try to prime your grenades. Everyone does it, they're on a set timer and you don't want them thrown back.
The sniper rifles work very well if you have a low ping and you can get in some uncommon spots. Of course, the K98k works about as well as a sniper rifle, but lacks the scope and it slightly less accurate.
The Garand and K43 only cause kill shots with a shot to the head or chest. Otherwise they only do 90 and you'll need to try a quick follow up shot (although most good kar users would end up killing you if you need two shots).
I think that's some decent basics...
[edited to make Pulse look bad by throwing in another abbreviation <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->]
The Sturmgewehr 44 (Stg. 44) and Maschinenpistole 44 (MP44) are the same weapon, the original assualt rifle (and in fact Sturmgewehr means assault rifle). In game it's good at long and short ranges (effective spray and pray) and can kill in 2 shots to the chest.
[more history: The gun is called the MP44, and in combat was labelled as such. It was only the nazi's propganda division (same people who named the Blitzkrieg...Blitzkrieg) who named the gun 'Sturmgewehr'. It's also the precursor to the Avtomat Kalishnikov '47.]
The Maschinenpistole 40 (MP40) is the basic equivalent of the Thompson, they're also good for spray and pray, but they're slightly weaker, but make up for it with better control (MP40 has 2 more rounds though). For a cool fact: in reality, the MP40 was prone to overheating if an entire clip was fired at once (the only gun you have to worry about overheating in DoD is the MG42 and you get a big bar that fills up anyway).
A point of interest would be that if you're still the first shot will always go where you point, and if prone you can effectively snipe with almost any gun. It's easy, however, to keep the first 2-4 Stg. shots tightly grouped, and therefore it can effetively snipe at medium ranges.
Hope I cleared that up. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
[edit] Thought I'd say this too: the Stg is great for shooting through doors. All of the automatics are, but the extra damage from the BAR and Stg. (along with their mobility over MGs) make them great for shooting through walls at suspected enemies.
The game crashes as soon as it finishes downloading the security module. Has anyone encountered this? What can I do?
