<div class="IPBDescription">Playable Now :)</div> Apparently the beta opened a day early.

Its pretty fun, I managed to blow 3 hours on it without even realizing it. The only problems I had:

-Lag & Ghosting
-Constant slowdowns & freezes during battle (even with the graphics cranked down all the way).
-If your resser gets killed after everyone in the party has used their res rings, your screwed. I had this happen to me at the very very very end of a mission.
-Enemies have quirky LOS, sometimes they chase you to get back in view, other times they can shoot you without you being able to see them.
-Random loot distribution really isnt so random.
-Sometimes you get loot you have no use for whatsoever.

The good things though:
-Its free
-Its easy to get into, in fact it has the best game interface I've seen yet.
-No loot arguments.
-Very forgiving compared to other MMORPGs.
-Dosen't punish you for stupid stuff and make you feel like your on a treadmill.
-Not too complex, but not too... um... not complex?

I enjoyed it so far, I just wish they didn't start characters out at level 15. Makes it seem like theres nothing to do. I'm also wondering if there will be large dungeon raids of 20+ people and such and how that will be handled.

Oh, anyone hear anything yet about dragons? You can't have an RPG without dragons.

    Madness.

I'm quite enjoying this. Normally I'd vomit at the sound of a MMORPG, but this is free and plays like Diablo which is A-Ok in my books.

    Here's a pic, so you can figure our my character's name <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The installer is under 100kb, and content is downloaded as you jump from city to city. This game reminded me why I need a new <i>system</i>, I get 29fps with all settings low <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That is fantastic. Me and Sonic organised the Naked Corner, District 2 of the first town, right by the gate. We managed to get a few strangers to join in, which was cool.

Anyways, i'm ingame under the name Ayu Pykma, a female Ranger / Necromancer. Here's a nice little pic of me and Sir Xelcath (Sonic).

For some reason it feels like MMO diablo.... then again its made by the people behind battle.net..... so some inspiration could obviously be drawn. My only concern is that it if skills cant be upgraded, they somewhat turn useless (i.e. what do you think an extra 8 damage from called shot would matter to a level 90 mob)

sorry guys... I raved about how good this game sounded for ages but when I finally played it last night?

The technology is everything they promised and more, the graphics are beautiful, the build was stable and my framerates were a silken dream throughout everything, even a small war in a highly detailed environment. Some lightning strikes showed off the deformable terrain and I played through the first 'solo' mission twice by accident where I got to witness the dynamic mission upload system at work (first time I witnessed the rogues go into the cavern shouting abuse at me, second time didn't see them at all but some captain was there who asked for my help to take the rogues out.)

Gameplay-wise it's mixed, the environments beg for exploration which is good and the missions are far more interesting than the usual MMO fare with one point featuring us racing against an army to warn the castle of the attack before it was too late but... then there was the combat...

I've been playing City of Heroes for about a week now I'd say. A week. Technically speaking GW blows it out of the water but unfortunately I can see myself taking CoH over GW. Why? Because CoH actually has combat.
In GW you click and watch (in agony for my case) as an auto-attack starts in.... a frigging auto-attack. Oh Paragon City how you've spoiled me with your non-auto-attackness.
Anyways, as anyone who's played or just looking at screenies you might notice you have abilities. Outside of healing I'd class these somewhere between a joke and a waste of time. Maybe it was because i was a ranger primary? Maybe it's because Asheron's Call 2 has exactly the same combat system except the abilities matter more and have greater impact? Or maybe I was just still used to the far superior and more importantly: INVOLVED combat of CoH.
One of the Devs was in and while he was lovely and nice and we got on inspite of my constant grumping about the controls and battle system (q and e to strafe... greeaaaat). Anyways he convinced me to try out fighting one more time stating that it was deeper than it first appeared. Well sorry but it must be so deep under the pretty waves of water that I couldn't even find it with scuba gear because I did the first mission with 3 helpful companions ~huggles bacon~ and not once did I feel any hint of danger, involvement or fun within the confines of the many instances of combat we suffered within our journey. The only time I felt like I was making a difference is when I healed someone because they were taking hits for some reason (in my fights the enemy just didn't seem to hit you at all then all of a sudden one fight would have a lucky one and your energy would be in the pits... totally random and of course, nothing to do with any player skills.. waii for auto-attack!).

I'm gonna give it a few more shots over the next couple of E3 days but my intial play left me down and dissapointed. I love CoH but I'd somehow hoped GW would devastate it... all it's done so far is make me appreciate CoH's combat more while thinking how lovely an engine GW has that's being wasted with these dismal fighting mechanics =/

Not my post about it feeling like diablo. You just summed it up, except I hate the missions. Basically all the consist of is a diablo style, run through the canyon slaying everything in youre path.

    hehe

    I already unistalled it.

combine the disgusting combat system with horrible targetting system, horrible movement (if you hit ctrl(baddie highlight) and q (strafe left) it asks you if you really wana quit)....

as gem said, the skills are silly.
The AoE heal friken heals mobs (that was one of the few times I died, sitting there trying tokill the baddie, alternating between heal and attack.....)
as gem said, spoiled by CoH.

As Far as I can tell, the concept is cool, just the friken UI is garbage (sometihng that will turn me off of any video game).

And if any one figgures out how the combat is 'deep' then feel free to let us know <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

oh, and combine that with a total system lockup that my computer had a friken hard time recoveringfrom....

    unistalled.
