Ever tried getting them as first upgrade?

Try it - it can be *very* worthwhile.

    I've never seen the point. What exacly are there stats, because they only last for 8 seconds don't they?

    Can't say i've had them 10th upgrade tbh =/

    cat + lvl 3 hmg = dead <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif' /><!--endemo--> in 2 secs flat

    Catpacks aren't to bad early in the game while there's skulks running around, the problem comes in when fades/onos start appearing becuase you need to kill something to activate the catpack, another problem is the reload time, once you've made the kill to activate your catpack you're more that likely going to have to reload which just ends up wasting 'activated catpack' time.

    Yup cat packs are handy against skulks but useless against fades and oni unless you frag a skulk with your HMG just as an onos/fade comes round the corner.

    IMHO cats are next to useless for me in CO.

    I find they are only useful for early slow skulks, but later on lerks, celerity leap skulks, fades and onos you waste too many bullets to make an initial kill that making the second kill with a cat is all luck.

    Gl its rather stupid for, sg you waste too many blasts, lmg it works alright early on, hmg can get lucky quite often (often level 3 damage is needed in order to make the cat bullets count).

    I find cats tend to be more trouble than they are worth.

    I'll stick with my MT rather than them.

    Cat packs are never there when you need them. If one skulk rushes you, you kill it, and THEN catpack activates for a few seconds. I've already killed the damn, thing! Thanks alot Autocommander.

    If catpacks were changed so if there is an alien nearby it is activated, then I would get one.

    Indeed, a better timing system would be needed for them to be useful.

    So, activate them 1 second after an alien is in line of sight?

    Catalysts should be like sprinting in dod. with the bar?

    Maybe something where after you get a kill, you get a cat pack, but you don't use it until you press a key to activate it. You'd only be able to carry one at a time though. And if you use your cat pack and kill somebody, you'll get another one while the one you are using is still going on and you can use the 2nd one to backup the 1st.

    Something like that would make Cats more effective and useful imo.

    i only get cats after lvl 7. oh sure they help with skulks also, but i would rather use that point to get a shootie. cat packs are just nice later on in the game. jp into the hive kill a skulk or gorge, then get 8 shots into the hive before the next alien can even start to spawn <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I take either cat or resupply as my first upgrade <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    Funny killing one skulk and then have that extra speed when 2 of his buddy's bunch into eachother from behind a wall. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I sometimes get them if I get HA, its a handy way of speeding you up. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> Although I usually get JP in combat.

    I agree that catalyst needs to have its timing looked at, they aren't really worth it in co or ns.

    Catpacks should be like mines. When you get them, they fill up a weapon slot and then you have select it and activate it whenever you want. Resupply should also give you another catpack.
  • sejsej Join Date: 2003-01-19 Member: 12488Members
    Cat packs are fun yes, but id rather have the consistency of something like a level 3 weapon or jetpack hmg, which you cant get if you have catpacks.

    But early game hmmm... never tried that, might be very useful.

    I still think you should get catpacks at regular intervals, rather than having to kill something to get one.

    I would actually prefer they activated when you deal damage.
