For All, esp Forlorn
I'm sick of reading through topics and seeing people use the letter 's' wrongly. This is especially for Forlorn. I don't know why I haven't posted this earlier. Here's a little lesson:
1) s is used at the end of a noun to denote plurality.
Examples:
I killed two skulks.
Give me two medpacks.
I like GLs.

No-nos:
I like marine's better than alien's.
2) 's is used between nouns to signify posession.
Examples:
The marine's armor was depleted.
The commander's orders were clear.

No-nos:
I liked he's weapon. (his)
3) ' is used between nouns, the first noun ending with s, to signify posession.
Examples:
The marines' armor was depleted, so they welded each other.
The aliens' hives were dying.

No-nos:
The aliens's hives were dying. (If I see this one more time...)
4) 's and 're are used to represent 'is' and 'are' respectively.
Examples:
He's a terrible commander. (He is a terrible commander.)
They're owning us. (They are owning us.)

No-nos:
He's armor was gone. (Proper: His armor was gone.)
We killed they're hive. (Proper: We killed their hive.)

I'm onto you Forlorn.

Nothing with being one...
I'm quite the Nazi at it myself. :X
I really hate it when people won't take the time to use proper punctuation and spelling.
And when they say, "Well, I don't care!*", we should reply, "Well, the rest of the internet does."
*Actually, it would look more like, "wlel i dun caer1!"

Nothing like having Skills with a Z.
I think that counts for any proper noun that ends with "s".
The aliens's hives were dying. (If I see this one more time...)

This one is correct, and is technically the preferable way of writing it. Hanging apostrophes (e.g. marines') may match up to spoken English well, but they shouldn't be written that way.
Strunck & White agrees with me too, so don't be all "Olo GRAMMar NUB" as I'm not only a grammar nazi, I'm an educated one. ^^
(Edited to remove a stray S. Irony is fun.)
/edit who gives a crap in the first place
It's just...saying Ay-lee-ins-ez is redundant and sounds moronic. Any noun ending in an s (generally plurals) when being used as a possesive can end in -s' or -s's.
I'll throw some more 'there' stuff in here:
there - showing location (i.e. He's standing over there.)
their - showing possesion (i.e. Their base is around the corner.)
they're - contraction of they are (i.e. They're over in that direction.)
...Of course, then you have the two, to and too, but those are much easier to discern (and sometimes I'm to lazy to write 'too far' instead of 'to far'...).
[Knew a guy in middle school who's last name was Tew...so I have four 'twos' .

People give a crap because if you can't write legibly then you're not communicating your ideas properly. It also makes you sound like a child who hasn't passed out of primary school. Nobody expects people to have completely correct spelling and grammar, but blatant 'u's and '2's (and common word misspellings/misuses...) in the middle of a sentance on a forum signify an air of incompetence.
Please be a joke, please please please.
Incidentally, if we're being all female dog while we're here, trailing apostrophes are fine, and I'd expect weirdness like "aliens's" from people who can't spell 'colour' anyway.

Anyone that lazy wouldn't even say "atrocious", so it's a joke.
