Ns: Not Really Working

sound problems, crash on quit
Some time during NS 2.0 the following problems surfaced. I do not know what caused them, but since that time NS has been unplayable. The problems are as followes:
1. Sound is distorted. Ambient sound becomes an obnoxious buzz, other sounds appear to be played very fast. Voice comm comes in bursts of incredibly fast speech.
2. When I start the game, ALL control binds have been cleared. Name is reset to NSPlayer. Other options seem to be reset as well.
3. When I attempt to quit, or change video options, my computer crashes and reboots. When computer reboot is complete, I recieve a message that my computer has "recovered from a serious error". Typing "quit" into the console does not help.

These are not new problems, and have persisted dispite all updates since NS 2.0.
I am currently using NS 3.0 beta 4a. I am running Windows XP, and I am using NS with steam. Problems have not occured with other HL mods, except Sven Co-op which displayed similar problems the first time I used it and then functioned normally. I have tried reinstalling steam and reinstalling NS. Does anyone know how to fix these problems?
Thanks.

I thought I was the only one in the world with this problem! But mine has just hatched up since the recent NSv3.0b4a update. I'm very interested in the solution to this problem!

I spent some time messing with NS Options and i solved das problem! Go to Audio and Enable Both of the Hardware support Options(EAX und A3D), then go and run NS in D3D mode (not sure if this does anything to help but It works for me) and now I don't recieve the Blue screen of death and quick audio problems anymore. Hope this helps a bit!

hmmm.... doesn't seem to work for me. I'll mess around with more options and see if i can get it working. Thanks for the info, though
