For Future Reference
With all the political debates that go on in Discussions I tend to have a lot of trouble working out what the hell is being discussed. I know little of politics, except that there are various forms of government and that people tend to vote for the person least capable of running the country.
With that said, I feel it may be beneficial to have a handy repository of political definitions. What is "Left" and "Leftism" and what is "Right" and "Rightism" (I probably buggered that up, oh well)? What precisely describes an extremist? Etc etc. Essentially it will be a useful reference for discussion veterans and newbies (to politics) alike look in on and know whats what.
Useful links and information will be appreciated. Whenever a useful definition crops up (IE, "A Republican is: <insert concise description here>") it will be edited into this post. When the "Dictionary" is somewhat complete, it will be edited into my signature.
So, uh, without further ado, please, by all means, educate me

Also a good source is the webpage of the political party in question. Often enough they will have alot of details on their platform.
Don't feel bad about not understanding politics, they make it confusing intentionally. It keeps your attention away from the things they don't really want you to notice.
