I was playing NSTR2 and while in commander mode I could open doors with mouse click, can you still do this in NS now?

That must add a cool dramatic effect, just when a fleeing group of marines reach a door the commander opens it, then when the aliens comes he closes it giving them seconds to spare: cool

Does that mean Marines cannot open doors on their own?

No, marines can still open doors. The commander just has the ability to operate the usables on the map at any time.

How do aliens open doors anyway? Can they use the buttons?

this applies to lifts too. The commander can click on an elevator to bring it up/down. very very handy for those times when your squad of marines are moving down a hall, you can lower the lift for them just in tiem so they don't have to wait those precious few seconds lowering it themselves..

also it can be quite fun to annoy aliens who are trying to get somewhere but some pesky elevator keeps moving on its own ;)

I'm sure that feature will be abused by evil commanders. That commander kick thing was a great idea.

You could trick them by sending the lift down and putting turrets on it so they think its like a lone marine.

Can you use it to squash aliens who sit under lifts ?

in setting this up in a map, do you have to use a button or can you use a presence entity?

It'd be cool if there was a trash compactor (a la Star Wars) in an NS map that the commander could activate... hehe.

I dont know what is sadder, the fact that you memorized that number, or the fact that i recognize the number.

The commander can click any entity that can be used.

Commander's can't manipulate momentary_doors or trigger_presences.

It was funny, there was a question of what the number was on like, "beat the geeks" or something, and I realized that I knew the number. Kind of freaked me out, since I never really paid any attention to it while watching Star Wars. Haven't forgot it since then. Hehe, I think its unavoidable. It does have a ring to it, after all. Kind of like 867-5309

So, you have to click the elevator button, you can't just click the elevator?
EDIT: or do you mean, the commander can click any entity that can be triggered?

Are there any maps where only a commander can use a certain feature? For instance safety features in a space station that wouldnt have buttons (so that marines dont push the wrong button and get sucked into space). That would be interesting as it would add yet another thing for the commander to do and so marines just couldnt do certain things unless the commander had some spare time.
Things like blast doors, furnaces etc could add extra atmosphere to the maps and add to possible tactics.
Just a thought.

No, I believe it's more along the lines of clicking on the entity itself, like the door, or the elevator, and not the button.

Um, what is 867-0309? Your phone number? your girlfriend's number?

It's the hit song by Tommy Tutone, "Jenny (867-5309)".
It's good ole' fashioned 80s kitsch at its best.

Its technically possible, but nobody has done it. Really its just better to let the troops on the ground do that sort of thing. The commander is busy enough without making him open doors and whatnot for the players. :P
