Bearing in mind most of this happened not only 20 years ago but also in Croatia, I wouldn't be suprised if there isn't much evidence to support all this stuff.

I choose to believe on the basis of awesomeness.

After what this guy has been through, I don't know if I'd want to survive any longer. We all know how he's going to die though, choking on a piece of steak.

but then I clicked a link near the bottom of the page about carlos the terrorist. It has the same guy as the bad guy in the Bourne Identity.  Is that guy real, in real life? so Bourne was sort of like... based on truth??? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Carlos was the maybe most dangerous terrorist of the 70s / 80s. I wouldn't put any money on a movie telling the truth about him, though. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
In the book (not sure about the movie) Carlos is an assassin. Jason Bourne is the competition. Of course it's much more complex than that but I won't go into that. I'm pretty sure this Carlos (on that site) is the Carlos Ludlum (the authoe of Bourne Identity) was writing about. On that news page....

"Carlos, 54, was sentenced to life in prison in 1997 for a triple murder committed in the French capital in 1975, but he faces fresh trials for other crimes that are being investigated."

At the start of the book it mentions an assassination of a high-ranking military officer in Paris and everyone thought it was Carlos, but it was actually Bourne.

I never noticed this before because A)I've never thought Carlos was real before B)I read that article about the killings.

Not necessarily. My friend's pop was SpecOps airborne and on a jump both his main and reserve failed. It was pretty high up if I remember. Landed on his back in 2-3 feet of snow. Internal organ rupshurs, broken bones, and some other minor issues, but he lived.

Haystacks can be 20-30 feet of stuff that will dampen the acceleration even better than snow. Plus you reach terminal velocity at some point.

I've heard of similar. That'd actually happen to a TON of russian pilots in WW2...

This is nothing compared to the guy who survived decapitation. I can't find a source for this, but I swear I'm not making it up. This dude was driving down the street, and he got bisected by a pipe or something, and he ended up with his head hanging off by the side of his neck. He jammed it back down where it was supposed to be, and drove to the hospital bleeding all over the place. He fell unconscious when they got there, and they were able to patch him up well enough that he lived. I think he's only partially paralyzed, as a matter of fact.

That was a hoax. If one of your jugulars is cut, you're dead before you can decide what to do. Not to mention if his spinal cord was severed, he wouldn't be able to control his limbs to put his head on, let alone drive.

Then there's the shock and trauma that wouldn't let you move. To even attempt that, you'd have to be so high you'd be breathing clouds.

yeah I know that plenty have people have survived falling out of an aeroplane before, in fact <u>I think</u> I read about a woman who landed on concrete and survived (if you can call living in a body cast for several months living).

when I first read I just got a mental picture of something out of the simpons or family guy of some nice big yellow hay stack sitting quietly in the sun, then from above a noise, getting louder, louder.."aaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhh!!!", THUMP, cloud of hay going up in the air, "ow."
