As for CoH.. this is seriously making me want to buy the game (that, and two other people I know who've played it in Beta / bought it won't shut up about how cool it is.)
CoH or Anarchy Online.. CoH or AO.. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> Decisions!

CoH, no competition what so ever.
AO is my fav of normal mmos that I have played (I have not gotten to play any of the new ones such as FF yet).
However CoH Just blows it outa the water.
Instanced missions are MUCH better in CoH (though they are realy good in AO). but the thing that realy makes CoH better is that everything is viable.
The AO team has a tendancy for balance via gimp. Instead of making other classes balance out with a problem power (or slightly reducing the effectivenes of a problem) They will just nuke the power outright (this happened with the sniper abilities, compleatly destroying them....)
I know what you mean. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> My main character is a Shade and we're so gimped. I see people ask "What kind of armor can a Shade wear?" The common reply is "Anything that sucks."
The problem is that I keep buying MMORPGs and playing them for awhile, then getting immensely bored and cancelling my account. I don't mind the monthly fees, it's the $30-$60 boxes that **** me off. Happened with AC (Actually, I didn't get bored with AC.. I just saw / did everything and moved on), AC2, SWG, Ryzom (well that was beta) and now AO. :/ The good news is that the AO box was only $10. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
So uh, what's the price of CoH, and how is the longevity looking? Is there a good deal of customization (class / stat / skill-wise, I know what the character model generator is like)? Does the leveling get tedious so far? Are the enemies varied and do they use special abilities often? Is grouping fun and easy? Are the textures for cardboard boxes really good (always important)? How's the lag? I have a 56k and AOL. (lousy + expensive cable service here)
I don't mind picking it up, and money is no object.. I just don't want to walk away from this a month or two later and think, "I could have bought myself a new pair of shoes with that money."

ook, guess we gotta give you the full run down <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
there are 5 Archetypes (classes) each gets to chose a primary and a secondary power set (generaly there are about 5 primarys and 5 secondary for each class, these tend to vary inversley, so defenders have 7 secondary and 4 primary) There are 9 powers in each set. there are 10 Power Pools (each with 4 powers), any super hero can get access to these. The level cap is 40, you will have gotten a total of 20 powers. This lets you either take ALL of the powers from your primary and secondary, and 2 power pools OR (as most poeple do) skip a few from your normal set and end up with a few more power pools.
There are 2.24*10^24(give ore take a million) distinct costume posibilities adn the first content patch will add more.
You can find something to fit your play style <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The first expansion (not even a tentative release date yet) will be City Of Villains. You will controll a super villain, build your secret base, and have lots of PvP (involving said bases), more then that we don't know.
Yes, it is $50 with a $15 per month charge, I say its worth it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
of all the games you play CoH is the least number obsessed XD It's more about powers and, at worst, percent.
Generally it's more 'fun' than serious unlike most other MMORGs. Sometimes the devs have a wicked sense of humour and not only is the combat out of this world by comparison but the game throws things like ambushes at you from time to time as well =D

probably to be expanded.
as well as making new chars is well worth it.
As well as it will take you a while to get there.
If you are looking for the 'omg I iz teh l33tzor' effect you get from having your char decked out with stupid equipment and such, this isn't the game for you.
As gem said, it is more just fun then anytihng else.
Think of it as a tactical action game <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm working on making an HA marine for Squad Five. I trust it's okay to make him as a Tanker instead of a Blaster (I already have my main alt as a Blaster)?

Sure, it'd be best to make an HA for Tanking. Not a problem at all, given that HA is intended to soak up damage like a sponge, as are tankers. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
i cant remember who it was.. but i saw some of you the other day. 2 LA people...
i am shadowfaith. and a level 19 controller <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> i pwn with my powers <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I made a marine but I never use it anymore, its level 5 atm but my healer character called "Medpac Dragon" is lvl 8 and currently in use if anyone can add me.
I think that the HA personally looks better using the "Armour" body type instead of the tight body type. Makes it look more bulky and more like...well....armour

Heh. I just read the manual and saw a screenshot of the Supergroup Registration Form. Apparently, it's a B/6 (bee stroke six). Anyone that catches this brilliant little reference gets a thousand cookies (at his or her own expense, of course).
I'm going on now <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->
