Gameplay-wise for pubs and tourny play.
I always reserve my judgement only 4 days into a new beta. Seeing as though most people could only possibily have played at max 96 hours of the new version, I can't see how I can really form a well-informed opinion. So no rants on 3.0b3 I promise.
What I would like to know is exactly what it says in the topic. Where do you want to see NS go from here gameplay-wise for pubs and tourny play?
As I have tracked and occationally contributed by posting suggestions and observations in the forums since about a year before NS came out I am not only a fan of the game, I have also become interested in how NS evolves and the relationship between the players and the gameplay design. When changes are made, how does the community react (ie. Removal of BHing, Electrification etc), and how does it work out; all these aspects of developing the gameplay you want interests me. So when major changes like Skulks getting their health raised or dropped, Marines upgrades costs modified, it gives me a small clue where you are trying to steer the game gameplay-wise.
What I don't get much insight on is exactly what your reaction is to a particular change, your assessment of how the change worked out, and what (or who) inspired the change to begin with. The inspiration/reason for some changes are obvious (ie. Removal of BHing) and how satisfied you are with the results is pretty clear. However some changes are much less obvious. The Lerk is a good example. It was given a support role for a version now it is being made increasingly more offensive. I have no particular opinion on which is better because I have not played enough of the new lerk, but I am interested why the change? What is your assessment of the Lerk in a support role? Is this just an experiement on how the change of role for the Lerk will affect the alien game? Was this a result of pressure from the "Pro-Lerk Bite" lobby or were you just unhappy with the Lerk as it was?
I don't expect you to go over every single change over the year and a half but if you could touch on the changes that you thought were instrumental in the evolution of NS to the game you want it to be. I'd even liked to hear about what you though totally didn't work out and what you thought was in the right direction that you will play with in a later version.
Best of luck in all your endeavors,

That makes perfect sense with the consti-only beta and the non-existance of the veteran program.
On the other hand, maybe it WILL be going in a more pub-friendly direction.
Can we avoid judging Flayra? It's unfair to do so when we don't even know the poor guy.
I'd love to be proved wrong, though. Here's hoping b5 will be a scorcher, and NS has plenty of mileage left.

You can steer this particular line-of-discussion right into an onos' open mouth.
Not here please.

Take it from someone who discussed this very topic with Charlie not very long ago - if there's one thing NS won't end over, it's a lack of new stuff to put in. It's true that B4 has 'smaller' changes than the precessors, but this has more to do with 3.0 reaching release quality than NS reaching final state.
I am not so much asking Flayra for the forecast of whats to come as I am wondering what he thinks of the weather we have had so far.
If that makes sense.
Lets not fight about which side Flayra is on, I understand there could be a valid discussion steming from who influences changes more but it's not for this thread.
I am basically wondering what Flayra thinks of the NS project so far, what he thinks of the steps he has taken, and where he might step next based on how far we are from where he wants to be (so there is a little forecasting but Flay can choose to pass on answering that part ).
M'okey?

Yeah it's a pity Flayra isn't around more but it sounds like he's gots lots of projects on the run right now. Major crunch time.

I trust Nem when it comes to fears of NS reaching a final, no source better then someone who like actually talking to the guy.
I hope he answers but it is well within his right not to, I was just wonder'n... you know... wonder'n...

hence the hiring of new coder to take the reigns of the the mod version. updating and bug fixing.
i'm guessing he wants to focus his efforts on the next game and his new comany... and i for one want him too. the next generation engines are here and i want to see the great ns gameplay on them. with bigger and better everything.

I agree.
Why continue to bang your head into the wall that is HL programming (so I've heard) and deal with the limitations on your imagination that the engine cannot afford. Get a license for a juicy engine and develope NS2. NS with next-generation graphics and capabilities... ah... *O'YeAH-oH-bAbY*
With that said I think even if he's not directly programming/updating/bugfixing he will still have a measure of control on the vision and direction of NS. Until NS2 is out NS is still his budding community, a group of people who he could probably count on to buy a game he put out. NS still needs to be cultivated.
If NS2 is on the shelves tomorrow, would you buy it? :o
I know I would.
