how long is a "week or so".
i could think of up to 10 days, but not more. and why are there new screenshots? plz stop doing screens and try to finish the mod.

i'm waiting for the pr blitz, as i all my friends won't believe me, that this mod is going to be awesome. and in the pr blitz there will be at least a video, so i can shock em all!

will ns be out before cs 1.6<img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>? it should come next week

Flay's working his tail off here, I kid you not. Might I remind you that NS is currently his ONLY job? He's not doing this in his spare time; his spare time is spent testing NS, while the rest of his time is spent actually coding it.

Frequently, the screenshots you see in these threads are taken by playtesters and submitted to MonsE and Flayra... and even when Flay takes them himself, I'd wager it doesn't take more than a half-hour to edit and post a collection. You also might recall, in the RC9 Screenshots thread, Flay saying "Sorry, no time for captions today..." Why's that? Because he's too busy fixing the last few bugs!

So, to repeat and elaborate upon my first statement: Patience is a virtue -- one you should probably look into developing in yourself.

Its all about value and patience. NS is worth it to wait for. I just looked at RC9 and my heart rate increased. A game has not done that to me in a long time.

not to start a flame war, but trust me some of us have been here alot longer than you bud, so just hang tight like the rest of us, and for future notitice to all those curious, threats like this will not speed the game up, think of the ns team like blizzard and their games, they will not settle for anythinh less than stellar, so yeah, we are really on the verge of playing it, so just keep still for a few moments and before you know it bam! its out. Heh i still remeber when the first ns page, with the art being nothing more than paintings of the marine, and some aliens as concept art, so yeah, just hold out and dont annoy the team, they are surely doint their best.

It's a big risk just giving estimates of when you are done, because with things like this, you can't be sure. You know how half the retail games these days are released all buggy, because they <i>had</i> to make the release date? Well, a mod doesnt have to make the release date, and Flay and Co. will wait until they think it is in a releasable state.

If it will be released by the end of the week then that week will last till release.

When a programmer or other developer gives you a time something should be done by, add at LEAST half that time again to the date you REALLY expect it by, if you don't double it outright or add time and a half to it...

I know that when the "Gold Iminent" message popped up, my first thought was "Yay! We'll have it in three weeks!"

Just a quick question that sorta has to do with this thread... I didn't feel like spamming the board with another "Release question" thread.

Buuuut... I'm curious.

When NS goes gold and the "PR blitz" starts, I take it NS will be distributed to various mirrors, etc... But, is the release going to be delayed at all to let the "blitz" go "full swing", or will it be released the second the file distribution infrastructure is in place?

Just wait a little longer, if Flay and Monse want it out by the 30th then you have just about 7 more days until the 30th, but if it's not out by then don't get your hopes up! The key word is that they want it out by then, but something may come up, we can just hope nothing will.

One thing I can say from other mods is that PR has to be given a lot of care.

Look at games like Global Ops. It was touted as the next CS killer, etc, etc. They advertised it for a long time and when it came out, in beta, it was ok, but in proportion to the PR it sucked, so to to speak.

When retail and patch came out the game got better, but the damage was already done.

This has happened a couple times to good games.

Do me a favor and don't pull a DoD 3.0; announcing a release date then on the day of the release annouce that there is a bug that will take you a week or more to fix and don't post anything about the REAL release date. You flame me, you flame every Ranger in the U.S. Army.

Actually, I think NS should wait to be released till OCT 31 (if its done that soon, doesn't matter, I can still wait) due to the fact its halloween, NS=scares the poop outa people, halloween would be perfect IMHO. BUT THATS ME, MY OPINION, ya know, if I were god and all... Besides, take the last few weeks that you can and go OUTSIDE. Sheesh.

Coil, that has to be one of the most mature and thought out(not a flame) replys I have heard for a while!

I think that's the idea. The mirrors will be swamped to death, and within a day everyone should have it. SO you don't have to wait in a DL queue (*shudder fileplanet shudder*) to get it, you can just play it.

No worries. They've never given a release date before. Once they were hoping for a summer release- but came upon something I know nothing about that needed lots of time and attention.

"We hope to..." is not saying "It will be..."
Besides if they DO find a bug that needs to be taken care of- why the heck wouldn't u want them to deal with it? Things like this are unforseeable and that's the whole point behind not giving a release date.

We have a nice community here, but any flame shot your way is directed at you- as an individual with your individual opinion. I've yet to see another Ranger post the same opinion, so I'd say it's just you. Sure you might be able to call them up and they'd support you... but honeslty- did u just threaten a bunch of forum goers with the U.S. army? Please forgive me if I laugh at the idea.
