It's an MMORPG that doesn't consist of clicking on 2000 enemies for 6 hours straight to level up *cough* Priston Tale *cough* of course its pay to play.

What is the problem people have with p2p gaming? I sat down and worked this out on irc last night.

CoH is $15US a month, which at the current exchange rate is £8.40GBP.
I earn £5.05 an hour and my job isn't exactly well paying.
This means I would have to work about 1 hour and 35 minutes to pay for a months gaming.
Expanding on this line, it costs $180 dollars for a years worth of play which is just over £101GBP meaning I would have to work a grand total of 20 hours <b>a year</b> to pay for it.
Put simply, if I went to work for 3 days a year I would have enough money to play the game for the other 362 days.

You get a LOT of gameplay out of MMORPG, alot more than any other game type I've played. Conversely £101GBP would buy me two other PC games, three if one was cheap. Would these games take me a year to play? Would they offer me replayability? I very much doubt it.
And to top it off, if I get bored of CoH I will stop paying for it, if I want to pick it up again I start paying again, simple really.

I have no problem with paying $10 to $20, even $30 a month for a "<u><b><i>_-=+*REALLY*+=-_</i></b></u>" nice MMO, even a "<u>*REALLY*</u>" nice MMO; unfortunetly, there arn't that many "<u>*REALLY*</u>" nice or "<u><b><i>_-=+*REALLY*+=-_</i></b></u>" nice MMOs out there... as well as the whole credit card number thing. Why can't i just give them a check in the mail instead of my number that gives them (i think) possibly nearly complete access to my <i>entire</i> credit account, full of hundreds to thousands of dollars... ?

Sorry, but the chance for theft is too high with credit card numbers. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

"YOUR CHECK IS IN THE MAIL!"

I'm going to have to say that's a victory for MMORPG's.

Do not turn my post into an mmo vs. anti mmo argument. Just stop it right now.

Wha? Aren't they discussing whether to get CoH or not?

How do those work anyway? I've heard of 'em, but I've never made use of it.

I just looked it up on bestbuys website. From what I gather is you pay 30 for the first month, then when that time goes out you can go to best buy and have your card "recharged" for extra time. Probably has an account number or some jazz like that <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So this works for multiple games or something? Cause I hope CoH doesn't charge $30 a month lol.

I played EQ and used a Game Card once.

What they basically are is a code on a card. You pop this code into your account and it enables 3 months of playtime for your account. No credit card involved, you can get them in stores like EB or GameStop. As long as you originally bought the game, you're good to go.

    That simple.

<b>Edit:</b> Not sure if the CoH one is 3 months, but that's how long mine was.
