Not much added value in those screenshots. Micro$oft finding new ways to clutter my screen with yet more pointless crap and sap even more processing power with translucent windows.
Had fun with roaming profiles, like explaining to the salesman why his logon took an hour and a half because of all the mpeg files on his desktop...
hmmm on screen shot 5 it has windoes XP on it... so it is just peopled editing winXP!

As impressed as I am...
The .jpg named BLUEJEANS in pic #10 is easily more impressive than the rest of that jazz. Somebody sent me a full size version before - it's nice
lol me hates multiple desktops. Me may get this new windows. Me like m3h 1337 win98! w000t win98! heh, Looks nice, but they are makin windows too simple! it takes longer to find the little things I want! (heh notice my leet talk next to windows98? do you get it?)
My initial reaction is "eww" followed by "they seem to be going for a LiteStep-like feel" followed by "wtf" when I see how cluttered and unorganized the thing is.
I love the look and feel of XP, but this thing just seems so wrong in so many ways...
Sorry, I just don't need a picture of a cloak taking up 10% of my screen...
I'm guessing it'll be the same as XP where most of this flashy looking fluff can be turned off..which is exactly what I did with XP when I had it installed.
To me it just looks like XP with lots of useless interface changes that will all be removed so it looks like 9x again ;D Maybe if it has a major security and stability advantage I would consider getting it but after this Palladium stuff I, like smoke am waiting for a WinOS compatbile nix build ^_^
HA! Look! It's an XP designed after my school! Texas Longhorns! (Our color is even orange! )
I'm with Necrotic on this one. As long as all this fancy crap can be turned off, I'm happy. My WinXP looks exactly the same as 98se except for the wee windows icon in the start menu. I just use it for it's stability.

Ewwwwwwww. I'm sorry, MonsE, but that is one of the most horrible interface designs I have ever seen. Whoever designed that really needs to learn when and where gradients are appropriate. He uses them far too much, meaning that elements look unconnected or hashed together, and the whole thing gives me the impression of something very amateur. I can just see the guy sitting in his office...
*click* "OMGZ anothre gradint fill! I am ubarl337!! r0x0r!!h4x!!!1"
And don't get me started about those orange highlights on the start menu...
I am just curious as to what reason exists as to why I would upgrade to "longhorn" over the existing windows XP? With the relativly minor changes and additions to what is currently visable in the screenshots, it could even be crammed into a Service Pack or "Plus" pack. But maybe there are some "under the hood" changes as well, hopefully something worth the time and cost(s) in upgrading.
I know, this version will be coded to a unique dongle, which you can only recieve if you call Microsoft and give them your cdkey, a number generated at install baised on your hardware config, and your SSN... And this whole procedure will be bypassed cleanly by those "certain individuals" we've all heard of before, within 2 days prior to the retail release.

meh. yeah, linux-like virtual-desktop capabilities are nice, but the bubbly interface better be turn-off-able. I hate that in XP now and I'll continue to hate it.
I really can't deal with all this fancy crap they splash over windows nowadays. Personally, I just like it plain and simple, and not taking up huge amounts of space with its fancy curves and colours.
looks dumb. all it looks like is xp with a few extra features, a different default theme, and a few snappy images. could it possibly be an upgrade instead of a whole seperate OS?

I'll certainly be using it for a while, until I next see fit to upgrade, and by looking at it, that won't be longhorn, unless it's needed for something that 2K just can't do, maybe in terms of a new hardware development somewhere in the near future.

It's 64bit? Nice, as I said, I won't upgrade unless it gives me a reason to, and that could, with some other stuff, it all depends how much I need to and the cost.
I have nothing against it, I haven't bothered to look yet, and probably won't until it's out for a year, I'm very slow when it comes to the uptake of new OSes.

New FOR WINDOWS DESKTOPS tiresome git. And linux was about a million years behind Unix and big iron on all this, so don't get all full of yourselves. Hell, Windows 2000 Advanced server can be run 64-bit and it's been around in the Win world for 2 years now. Just never on the desktop. So go edit a cfg or something...
