i thought it looked a bit bland aswell, the lighting at least, so i dimmed the lights and added spots in the second room, also ive added a new large corridor, pics at the bottom.

The new ms lighting

I like the last shot. That corridor with red lights.

The architecture looks nice, but i think it could really improve the map if you work on the lighting. I see you are using a lot of white light_spot and some overlays, wich is a nice start, but i think some colored texture lighting could really improve the look (and the feeling) of the map. Maybe some yellow texlights, so it doesnt look disco too much and keep the colortheme of the yelgrey texture set. Just a suggestion, you are the one who pick colors

Good work so far!

I like , especially that last shot. Try not to mix the yellow and the red lights (if you implement the yellow) though, as it might end up a little disco.

i think the ms needs a splash of color into it, im gonna leave the second room for now and mebe come back to it later when ive added a few more rooms to see how it flows.

try and use some more textures, you emphasize the word "texture" only once, use it like a lot of times! dont just use one texture, use a whole lot! this makes it original and more creative! add some more lights, glass, smoke, and prolly some more bright lights! yay

Again with the lights.... I think you're really just suffering from a lack of color. The yelgrey set particularly seems real finicky about what colors are used with it. Pure whites don't look good, and lots of color doesn't either. Try and mix in some yellows and maybe a few blue or red lights in small amounts.

For instance you could do tiny (8 unit height) lights that help demark the stairs. That kind of light SHOULD be another color to grab your attention and say "Hey, there's some stairs here". Just a thought.

Other than that it looks good.

Yup its a good effect and should be used in more maps, it is probably ok with zazi.
However I think they are a bit to bulgy/round. I like the new lighting better and also the skylights are nice

And please use jpg in stead of gif... The grainy thing gif does to your lighting hurts me eyes... ah the pain
don't get the wrong idea about this since this is not about your map or anything. I mean it looks good but could use some more interesting lighting. It's just a litte joke about gif VS jpeg

I like the hanging bridge style you are going for there in the cave section.

Despite the simplicity of that cave room think, it's pretty seksy!!!
• KesterKester Join Date: 2004-02-21 Member: 26770Members, Constellation
ive put another hour or to into the cave room, added some red lights on the walkway, and altered the cables holding it so there more like this \_/ and less like |_| waiting for the compile (damn vis doesnt like my cave!!)

will post pics later

I think you should chuck in some intense lighting in the corners of the cave in a different colour to the main ambience there - try something like red, blue or green - this will make it look slightly more interesting .

I must say I like those cave screenshots as they are. It's the gloomy feeling of especially that first shot I guess.
There are some nice skulk-sized holes in that ceiling, out of lights way, I hope?

On a technical note: Be sure to keep your planes count under control (check with -chart at the compile line) when building such natural terrain. If it's only a small section it shouldn't be a problem though.

And on those crystals: they do seem a tad bit too bright. Remember that textures used for texture lighting are always fullbright. Perhaps darken the base texture a little. And try adding a glow over them, looks purty IMO (if you can spare the entities that is of course. Damn env_glow having to be handled server side.).

how are the hanging rope/supports anchored into the rock?
• KesterKester Join Date: 2004-02-21 Member: 26770Members, Constellation
at the moment they're not just the cable going straight into the rock, ill probably add some little feature on them, when i have some more time to work on details, as i really wanna get workign on the final layout.

I have one half of the map made and finished apart from the hive, and connecting corridors, and now im working on the over half of the map hopefully ill have it finished by the end of the month, but with the amount of other commitments i have, that might still be hoping too much

those hallways look too open... put some crates or something so skulks dont get pwned as bad
• KesterKester Join Date: 2004-02-21 Member: 26770Members, Constellation
those are old shots, ive made it more skulk friendly, without the use of crates (well at least i hope its more friendly =]
