Its been like a half a year since i first heard of ns and probably way longerr....for you vets...

Sure those grueling days of waiting were worth the sweat when it is released and all your high anticipation fullfiled or not.

But i half to sincerely say that I would have liked to have found out that this mod ever existed on the day it was released..

On a side note:

How many number of players is *good* for a server, 32? 20?
and what are the lag physics like, is there gunna be a lota ping around 300+ on the release day just like dod 3.1 was??

peace gtg do a report

    Good number = around 14

Good ping = doesn't truly matter from tasty net code

i would guess a 32 player server would be the best because of the massive map sizes... plus more interesting battles

as one PT put it "They are comin outta the F***in walls man!"

Actually, the optimum player count is lower than CS or DoD. So I would agree with JediYoshi. I'm thinking 10-18 would be a good range.

I'm with Yoshi, it isn't the more the merrier, though I understand that 32 player games are... nonstop action. That's not what I would always look for, in a game that size, it would become a matter of brute force and strategy would start to melt away, especially in the realm of stealth.

/me personally thinks that under 20 people in a server is sad

Na, really, they've said a game with about 7 people on each side is pretty... grueling

You really can't have a decent game of NS until it's about 5 on 5. However, I think that when you get up around 8 on 8 or 10 on 10, NS becomes probably one of the most intense experiences you'll ever find on a computer. More than that is good, but you'll want to avoid making it too big so the commander doesn't throw himself out of a window trying to provide for so many marines. So I'd say a 20- or 24-player server would be the best.

dang i wish bf1942 would handle atleast 14 players
i can never shoot down my targets with the constant spike lag
    but ns looks lag free

yes, I'm glad the NS netcode is so smooth
    /me caresses the netcode
    *cuddle*

    ahem

but for bf1942, I don't have much of a problem with it, I'm good up to about a ping of 140, only then do I start to have problems.

id have to say 14-20 is the best range... any more and it could be rough for the commander, at least in public servers. NS runs good with this many ppl (i get <100 ping throughout the game)

20+ sure is fun though - constant action and plenty of strategy!

For the best mix of action and strategy, I'd say an 8v8. That's enough for a commander, a marine at base building and defending and two 3-man squads. That's the team size I'd recommend for clan play.

Simply due to map size and the aliens faster rate of movement, games below a 5v5 don't work very well and whilst a LOT of fun, games much above 10v10 tend to dissolve into anarchy. Having said that, there's no real reason why a good commander and disciplined marines isn't workable for a 16v16, but for public play, you'd probably find the commander having a nervous breakdown.

Battlefield 1942 is totally unplayable for me. i can't even steer the man properly never mind the vehicles coz the damn frame rate is like 2 frames per second once there's more than like 4 people on the server. and i have a 2200 mhz pentium 4 512 MB RAM and Geforce2 GTS 64MB and DSL. oh and it spikes like every 2 seconds even if you are the server and nobody has joined you, and they talk about 64 player games? HA yeah right! *cough* ######## *cough*

i think their UNLUCKY not lucky, cause they dont get the leet non-n00b status plus we're known!

/me proudly carries his "n00b status"
and im pretty sure i dont know anyone of you :p

i found NS like half a year ago. altho i noticed the "revolutionary" gameplay concept, i didnt follow it at all, till about few weeks ago. i dont play halflife anymore (Q3F TILL I DIE!!) , but NS kinda hyped me up again. wasnt exited about a soon-to-be-released mod since uuuhm cs beta 2 :)

    ps.
you "veterans" should be carefull about calling newbies "n00bs"
dont bring elitist CS style thinking to ns.
