Binds For Comm Keys?

BallistoBallisto Join Date: 2003-05-19 Member: 16503Members
<div class="IPBDescription">Can you customize them?</div> Can you customize the comm keys? What are the console commands for them? The biggest thing that's stopping me from comming right now is that my voice key is v, which is also the recycle key. Drives me nuts.

And yes... I plan to put the binds in comm.cfg and bind a key to execute that. If there's a way to make them automatically bind when I hop in the chair, that'd be great.

Well I can <b>half</b> help here: I believe in 3.0 there's an option in the gui somewhere to change the commander keys. This implies that they're stored in a cvar. Sorry I don't know the cvar, but with steam's autocomplete maybe you could work it out. I'm pretty sure there's an option in the menu though. When I get home (I'm at work at the moment) I'll see if I can find that cvar for you.

Quick suggestion though, why not just make that config rebind your voice key to alt or something? Try adding this to ur autoexec.cfg, then just press \ to toggle between comm and normal. Might wanna add some echos in there and turn dev mode on or something (does that still work?)

    alias bind_comm "unbind v; bind alt +voicerecord; bind \ bind_normal"
    alias bind_normal "unbind alt; bind v +voicerecord; bind \ bind_comm"
    bind_normal

    Edit: nvm, I googled a program to edit starcraft hotkeys <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Or you could just rebind voice chat to another key. I don't even use voice chat and I'm a really good commander.

I have 8 button mouse (2 by my thumb.) One is for my voice the other, the other is for my map. It's really a nice set up.

(Sorry to be a little off topic, i just love my mouse.)

A bit off topic? It had nothing to do with the topic.

Just post it in the rants and raves section of the forum. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The problem is... I have voice RIGHT where I want it. It's in easy reach of my fingers and lets me move around while talking.

And I don't even use v for recycle. Why do you need a hotkey for recycling? I don't think I've actually ever used it on purpose before <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I tried binding it to b... but that was hard to reach; and I'd hit v through habit and recycle stuff anyway.

It is pretty important, when you want to recycle everything after your pg was destroyed.

It might squeeze in that extra 8-10 res you need.

I have noticed this line in the config in the past.

    cl_cmhotkeys "qwerasdfzxcv"

I haven't played with it but the variable name and the fact that those are exactly all the commander hotkeys seems interesting.

Meh... I'd say though that accidentally recycling your observatory when you need to drop a pg, or recycling the adv armory are much worse <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'll try that. Maybe bind p to recycle cause that's not ever used for anything.

I think there really needs to be a "cancel recycle" button, for those murphy's law times when you recycle your advanced armoury instead of dropping ha or something <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I know that when I've been frantically hitting hotkeys on lots of buildings I've accidentally recycled a tf at a critical hive outpost instead of upgrading it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>I rebound my voicechat to T. I have long fingers, so I can easily reach it.

That 8 button mouse is sexy. Have you two ever considered manage a trois? ;D</span>

Yeah they really need that. I think they don't have it now because they don't want comms to recycle rts and then unrecycle them when the skulks leave or get splatted by marines.

Maybe in the first 2 seconds - cause that's when you realize your mistake!

Do you guys have some aversion to poking around in the menus on occasion? You wouldn't need to dig around in the console commands if you just explored the normal interface a little bit.

In the options menu, go to (IIRC) Multiplayer. Hit the Advanced button. There's a blank right there that holds the string which represents your comm keys. I've mapped mine clear over to the other side of the keyboard. (uiopjkl;m,./) Everything is completely out of the way, so I don't end up recycling something by look at the scoreboard or something like that.

    hope that helped:

    An answer to this ...

    CODE
2.) I am left-handed and face keyboard porblems as my configuration is harder and that commanding uses the left side of keyboard (in most respects). By moving my fingers from there, I take away from scrolling and jumping to people, abheit being a small amount of time. Any suggestions on button configurations that might work?

    Might be...
Go to options -> multiplayer -> advanced -> (scroll down) commander hotkeys -> change "qwerasdfzxcv" to whatever suits you best as left handed player. You can move it more to the right of your keyboard. That simple!!

Do you mean the commander hotkeys?

the line cl_cmhotkeys "qwerasdfzxcv" refers to a 4x3 grid of keys

    qwer
    asdf
    zxcv

so basically if you don't want v to recycle change it to

cl_cmhotkeys "qwerasdfzxc?" where "?" is whatever key you want!

no doubt some one else pointed that out and i missed it <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
