making a skinmesh
This is a quick tutorial which is not fine tuned, but gives you the basics on how to do it properly.

The meshes you get through using Milkshape will nearly always have stretching in them as you can only look at each group from one direction. It's ok for a quick mesh, but it's nowhere near good enough for a model intended for release imo.

Yeah, you have to stretch the vertices by hand... and i REALLY hate how you cant do something like hold shift and you'll only pull straight. :/

Just get LITHUNwrap 1.3, and you're set for such stuff....

I hate the program. I skinmesh in Max.

i only have hate for lithunwrap for 2 reasons

Doesnt prompt to save when you click exit

messes up smoothing groups

My way of getting round the smoothing groups problem is to not bother until I've meshed my model!

    Model - Mesh - Smooth - Skin - Animate - Release

Most smoothing problems in MS3D can be corrected by rewelding vertices.
