Question about welder model

Is the welder going to be the placeholder from Opfor?  or is there a new one?  If so, are there any screenies of it?

    Why is there never any screenies from the aliens view?? There is a couple yes but compared to the marines there is pretty much none!

    On the topic of the welder, how do you know which doors are weldable?  Are there certain airlocks that are always weldable or what?  Can someone give an in depth description of the welder and how it works?

    Mappers designate certain doors in their maps to be weldable. When welded, they have a set amount of hit points. The aliens can break through these, or just sit there.

    Am I right?

    On to the Marine side, they just weld through an area to weld or unweld that place. When you weld a place shut, there's a fake wall there to block it.

    A slightly better description:

    1) All weldables are marked with a weldable icon.  If you put your cursor on them, a tooltip will pop up saying "you can weld this."

    2) Something that can be welded into existence (e.g. an open vent that can be welded shut) is usually shown as a semi-transparent brush where the weldable is.

    3) Mappers designate whether or not a weld can be destroyed, and how many hitpoints it has if it can be.

    4) More than just doors can be welded; the only real limit is the mapper's imagination.  Most of the welds in Hera are control panels that operate doors/vents... there's Tanith's infamous Laser Strike, which occurs after welding a circuit to completion... Caged has a few large grates that can be welded to gain access to other areas, etc.

    just to clarify on coil's post: you can't just weld any door you see, it has to be a func_weldable entity.

    can you kill any one with the welder gun... or will it be like a knife on other games, so you can kill people but it is hard?

    IT does do damage, and I believe it's the mapper's discretion if a weld, once welded, will be broken.

    First time I saw that welder it looked like a gun to me. It looked so BIG, but then I watched more carefully and I noticed that the marine is just keeping the thing so high it just looks like big <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> Btw, how often welder-kills happen in playtests?

    they should change the welder model to like a blow tourch model becuase it looks stupid having a gun as a welder.

    Ginger, it isn't a gun. It looks more like a tool than a gun, given the way it's held and the general shape of the welder. A gun used like that would break your wrist in one or two shots.

    And while we are on the subject of models, what does the ammo look like placed by the commander?  IS it just the same old HL green ammo box, or is there a new one?

    I dont know exactly what it looks like but I know there is a new one and Im pretty sure there is nothing from HL (aside from the engine) in ns. (models, sounds, textures, etc all new)

    in nstr2, there was a model of the ammo pack or soemthin, but it looked pretty bad, and its really old, so they might have changedit. i dunno, but its a lot diff, just like a little green box, its not a pack

    Both ammo packs and healthkits have new models, so you don't have to worry about seeing the tired old HL models (even though those were placeholder for a while.)  You can see a pic of the healthkit <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/uploads/cgc-nsrc8-ss4.jpg" target="_blank">here</a> and a pic of the ammo box <a href="http://www.readyroom.org/ns_ingame/rc5_ns_eclipse0054_8x6.jpg" target="_blank">here</a>(way over on the left).

    When things are dropped by the commander does it flash or let off some smoke kind of effect?

    Yes, there's a particle phase-in effect, a bright light, and a cool noise that lets you know the commander just dropped something nearby.

    The PT's and Dev Team members say there are now <i>no</i> Half-Life models still in.... well, PERHAPS save the necessary ones... if such things exist. I'd say there's probably no original models.

    The only thing from HL that will be in the release version of NS will be a few textures and maybe a couple of sprites, that's all. No Gordons, no Tinas and no snarks. All original modelling.
