<div class="IPBDescription">Holy crap it snuck up on me this year :o</div>Just wanted to let you guys know. I know from the last 2 years of hanging around here none of you nubs will go to <a href='http://www.quakecon.org' target='_blank'>QuakeCon</a> for one reason or the other, but I will post this anyway in hopes that one of you will see the light.
August 11th - 15th in Dallas, TX at the <a href='http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylordtexan/' target='_blank'>Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center</a>.
Registration starts TONIGHT at 9PM Eastern! Make sure you register an account (free, just like on these message boards) beforehand, because you gotta do that before you can register. That is just the message board registration, and NOT the event registration. You need to be sitting at your computer mashing refresh starting at 8:55PM, because registration goes fast, very fast. As in, all the BYOC LAN spots will be full by 9:45PM.
And no, Quake isn't the only game played there. Tons and tons of games are played there.
And to the trolls that have recently formed on our humble boards, please refrain from your "meh, quake sucks" or etc posts.

I can't this year, as I will still be tied down here at home. But next year...

+ there's always bonuses.
For example, last year I got to play DOOM 3 Multiplayer. They'll probably do some Quake 4 stuff this year since no doubt DOOM 3 will have shipped.

Quakecon is about 6000 Km from me, so I'm not going any time soon.

Last year we played lots of warcraft 3, battlefield 1942, C&C Generals.. um... lots of crap.
This year there's sure to be lots of DOOM 3 dm, splinter cell, bf: vietnam, maybe even far cry and painkiller. And who knows maybe HL2 will be out by the middle of August...
And besides the LAN, there's a ton of stuff to do. Quakecon is almost like a Mini E3 with both hardware and software vendors showing off their latest stuffs. And there's also tons of workshops which will teach you various game dev aspects (they always do one for mapping and modelling), and my personal favorite, the Mod Roundtable...
