Drawing special parts
Hello everybody.

Iam drawing some and i think iam getting better and better.
I have problems drawing some parts of the body though.
I have seen lots of good stuff here in the art forums, so i
thought i might be able to get some help from some of the good authors.

I would like to know how you draw
(from nothing to something) these things:

1. A hand holding a gun, a finger on the trigger.

2. The part where pants and boots connect.

3. How large the head should be to the body.

I hope to get some detailed and well
done help, maybe some tutorials on how YOU would do it. I would be very glad
If you could add a/some picture(s) to your post

Thanks in advance

When drawing any part of any body. If you're trying to draw a hand holding a gun, or a stick... anything, look at how your hand is shaped and the perspective. If you want to see how to draw ANY part of the human body just remember, you have one. Look in a mirror, take photos, whatever. Look at how the finger curves, look at the proportions and perspective.

And i think the head is half the height of the torso, that's just a guess, but it seems somewhat right.

normal adult bodies are 6-7 heads high, and it decreases down from there (ie teenagers are about 5 1/2, children are 4-5 and babies/toddlers are no less than 3 1/2).
But yeah, esunas advice on hands is pretty much how you draw anything, just look and draw what you see

be careful when drawing the shoulders that they aren't extremely broad. Even if a person is jacked, their shoulders (in an idle state) still slope down from the neck. Avoid football-player style shoulders, as football players are wearing armor underneath

As for the hand holding a trigger, if the character is small enough, I usually just draw a circular blob with a single digit protruding (the trigger finger). Up close, its a whole different story, because you have to draw creases, knuckles, stuff like that. I have my characters wearing gloves for a good reason

As for where the pants and the boots connect, you usually want to make the impression that the pants have been stuffed into the boots. You can do this by making the part of the pants directly below the knees rather baggy, and then the part right above the boot very tight looking (lots of crease lines will do the trick).

    Thanks for the replies.
May sound weird but, i never thought of drawing my own hand (or just looking at it - drawing purpose) since i have become better. I think ill spend some time drawing some now. Football just replaced The simpsons on TV so iam a little bored. Football shovels alot of good TV away...darn.

I will sure post some of my work when i have done something i like enough.
I have gotten better and iam getting better, hope to earn some of the real cool skills i have seen in these forums.

If you can draw a fist, you can draw the hand. Just stick one finger out, except it'll be shorter than a fully extended finger (the tip is in the trigger). As for the arm, just make it stick out sideways a little bit - biggest mistake ppl make drawing guys with guns (talkin bout rifles here).

QUOTE (wall @ Apr 12 2004, 09:32 AM)

2. If you can draw a calf (that's the part of the leg), then you can draw the pants and boots. Make the pants droop over a little bit b/c they'll be baggy. This applies to any kind of clothes, helmets, harnesses, pads etc. If you can draw the body underneath, then they'll be no problem. Like he said, you have a body that you can model with, use it. I do ALL THE TIME. Also, look at other ppl's drawings. That helps too, by highlighting important features you might miss.
