No Ns Retail!
<!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> NS retail has been scrapped?!?!?!?! I neve thought I'd see the day, this is a dark hour indeed.
"raiN: Many of us have heard about your plan to make NS a retail game. Could you tell us a little about this?
Flayra: This has been scrapped so we can get started on the next game. As much as I love working on NS, 5 years is an eternity in game technology (that's how old the HL engine is at this point)."

This DOES NOT say that he is giving up on NS, he just has no plans on releasing it as a product to be purchased <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The fact is, you can't release NS retail. It's not financially viable, to be honest.
CS retail was entirely viable due to it's immense player base, not so sure about DOD, but it definately had a larger player base than NS pre-3.0. Because of this large, pretty much guarenteed market, releasing the game was a good idea so to speak.
But then again, take a look at CS:CZ. Look at the reviews. All of them bring up the fact that the HL engine looks and performs poorly, and is far too outdated. This has been the case for at least a year or two. If NS was to be released retail, as it is on the HL engine, it would not only have to break into a market that doesn't know it's history, but also push past the fact that it's technologically inferior to most games released in the past few years.
So in conclusion, to release NS as a retail game, with a good chance of making a profit, it would have to move engines. The general idea we can gather is that this is what Flayra wants to do with NS, then we will see an NS Retail in the form of "NS2".
*EDIT: Just because NS, as it is on the HL engine, won't see a retail release, doesn't mean that the whole concept and universe of NS won't be seen in another game.
So?
Quake was released in '96, so the engine was origionally built probably in 95.
...probably. >.>
Well maybe somewhere in april or somewhere in 2004
