Hi there everyone I'm afraid I'm having some trouble here and could use some help
first of all I'm running on Windows 98
I know this used to instal easy, but holy cow is it ever a pain now, I went though all the hoops downloading steam and the such, and now it won't load them, it says Update required, and it has the current version at 100% , and if I launch game it freezes, man what a hassle
anyone know what I"m doing wrong??
also is there anyway to run it the old fasioned way, all the download files auto install to stream

I would first install steam, download half-life off steam (hopefully your on broadband) and then I would install natural selection..is that the way you did it...
if your having problems with steam not loading properly, delete the file in your steam directory called..ClientRegistry.Blob..this will force steam to download itself once again
I really wish they hadn't of changed from the old way of doing things, this steam thing is a pain, I can't use any of my halflife stuff cuz the thing keeps saying I need updates which I already freakin have
If so, try right clicking on a game (except NS) and click on properties. It should be set to "Always keep the game up to date" or something like that. There is draw down menu to select this option, do so and start the game.
You will need to do this for each game, except NS.
Is this when you LAUNCH Steam and Steam is updating? (if sojust WAIT, seriously, Steam is wierd like that)
For now:
I would probably suggest compleatly uninstalling/reinstalling steam and NSP.

crappy man..sorry dude worked for me <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
try deleting steamUI.dll too, maybe it will help <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
.... however
when I hit launch game, a screen comes up (different for each game, such as halflife shows buddy and NS shows the three soldiers) but theres no menu on this screen and it never goes any further than this... lol from one problem right to the next I suppose .... alright after checking it again, I realized that this screen that comes up you can press the name or the steam icon in the corner... however neither button actually does anything after you click it
when I press tab, there are no words, the only things I see are the lines dividing the teams, and the little speaker that should be across from each persons name, other than that theres nothing... .any ideas?
if this dosn't work do a full reistall.
if this dosn't wrok do a reinstall of Steam and NS
note this includes the names of who I'm playing, along with everything written in text except what players say lol, I also noticed that the game doesn't run in software mode weeeeeeeeeeeeee, so I had to change to software, edit everything I needed then switch back, and even then I still can't see who I'm playing with lol but oh well at least it functions now! lol
update its drivers
and run in OGL mode.
