Why Did They Give Eggs So Much Hp?

BallistoBallisto Join Date: 2003-05-19 Member: 16503Members

Don't have enough bullets in my lmg!
Why DID they give the new eggs tons of hp? I remember one time I came across two eggs morphing into gorges at double res at the start of a game, killed one with WAY to many bullets, the other one hatched and started healspraying me, and then a skulk finished me off.

Had this happened pre 3.0, I would've shot both eggs with bullets to spare to nail the skulk.

What happened to the 2.0 eggs? The ones where a single light marine could run in a hive and kill 3 onos stupid enough to morph in the open!

Is it really that lame that the eggs need mucho hp? I never got killed gestating, I'd always find a safe spot to do it. The eggs are only vulnerable now because they're not moving, they can take hella beating!

okay, let me just say that is a stupid thing to say, because a hive isnt out in the open at all.

second: Eggs need a lot of hp, they cant always evolve in the hive because, have you ever tried walking as a gorge all the way from you hive to another hive on the otherside of the map with NO marine intervention? Not very easy (depending on how long the game has been going and the amount of people)

One time i evovled to onos, cloaked, and a rambo happened to run right into me (in a hive) so, what happened? he blasted the crap out of me! not fair at all, imo eggs need more hp, depending on the alien it's evolving to.

Yes I agree that the egg health is just right atm, I gestated at a very open spot last night (bad rue!) and a marine came along, he shot me with his lmg and then began to come and knife me, by the time he got to me I had gestated back to a skulk and ate his face.

    he then left the server

Eh.....I don't know what you mean by a lot of HP, because it takes a very short time to knife them. Unfortunately, the damage done will be negated once the pop out of the egg, provided they hatch

Trust me, a full LMG clip can kill it. They're toucgh because well...just to give them a better chance outside.

    They can't regenerate you know.

They always hatch before I can knife em. How many knife hits btw?

Oh and the safest place to evolve, besides certain vents and rafters, is on top of the hive.

    Egg has 500 HP

LMG deals 500 dmg at lv. zero

2 or 3 hive eggs have more HP though forlorn...

The only reason the egg is tougher now is because it actually uses all of it's armor, whereas before they'd die with armor. I say take like 50 armor away from the egg which would make it 200/100 right?

lol, you know what would be cool? If the commander could equip all his marines with spoons, and when they find the eggs, they could put them on their spoon and relay race with them.

    LET THE RELAY RACES BEGIN!

Although it would probably suck to have it hatch midway as your running, thus forcing the spoon down, and you up, there by flinging the marine half way accross the room... kind of like when the fat kid jumps on the seesaw with the skinny kid on the other side.

Don't take any risks with eggs... blast with full LMG clip then full pistol...
It could have been a skulk, or it could have been an onos.

egg hp is fine. they die quickly without healing, and if they do have healing, theyre probably evolving to fade or onos, when the eggs SHOULDNT die quickly.

Should eggs have as much health as they do? Maybe, maybe not, I don't know. I do think that eggs shouldn't be so much stronger than what they're evolving into though(i.e. Skulks/Gorges/Lerks). Those species can gestate just about anywhere and the time is faster so why do they need so much HP? Maybe lower-evolution eggs should have half the HP they do now or something. Any smart alien who knows that marines could get there before he's done will find a vent to gestate in.

However, what I think should NOT happen is that aliens get all(or just most? Don't remember) of their health back when they hatch. For example, if you stumble upon an upgrading skulk, spend most of your ammo on him but he hatches just in time, suddenly he's a full health upgraded skulk against a surprised and nearly ammoless marine, simply because you made the mistake of attacking him when he was supposed to be vulnerable. That's insane. Why should it be that way? Why should being caught with your pants down actually put you at an advantage over the marine? At the very least, damage done to an egg should carry over to the hatching alien so even if he's lucky enough to hatch on time, the damage dealt by the marine won't be wasted.

You shouldn't be surprised that you were unable to take two eggs and a skulk at once. Again: the game is about teamplay. If you are all by yourself, you should expect to run into all sorts of problems that you can't solve on your own. If you had buddies with you, the eggs and the skulk would have been toast very quickly from the concentrated fire.

    Yup.

Weapons 1/2/3 solves this problem right up, too. Especially if your not-so-much of a cheap a** commander dropped a better weapon, too.

Equivalent egg health is 500 at 1 hive, 575 at 2 hives, and 650 at 3 hives. That's 17/20/22 knife slashes. A 1 hive egg takes a full level 0 lmg clip to kill. A 2 hive egg takes 48 level 2 lmg bullets to kill. A 3 hive egg takes a full level 3 lmg clip to kill.

As far as the alien regaining its health after it finishes gestating, keep in mind that there is a flipside to it. An alien with regen will heal while they are an egg (if they weren't at full health to begin with), but they will lose all of the extra health when they finish gestating.

I do remember one time that I grabbed redemption because I was going to go gorge in hostile territory, and I wouldn't survive a fight with regen or cara due to marines having bigger guns. Anyway, I had redemption and I was a gorge, when I heard a marine coming. Rather than trying to run or fight, I decided to get adrenaline, turning me into an egg and allowing redemption to work more easily.

Oh God, I'm going to agree with Forlorn, someone kill me now.

Eggs are fine. Absolutely perfect. The reason they're so tough is to ensure some random rambo can't wander in & slay you when you've picked the one place it should be safe to GEST, the hive in seconds.

If you can't kill eggs, may hell help you when you need to kill a Fade.

No but the gorge has 150 health/40 armor and egg has 250 health/150 armor which means at about gorge 30-50 health redempt chance comes in and as an egg 250health/150 armor redempt proccess will begin at 50-100 health.

Random: ever tried killing a larva or egg in Starcraft? They're really tough!!!

My take on both situations: an egg by itself is pretty killable. An egg with at least one defender is pretty safe, as you're much better off aiming for the active threat rather than the threat-to-be.

Larva have 10 armor and 25 HP.
StarCraft eggs have 10 armor and 200 hitpoints.

    Just fyi.

Why is this? So that you require heavy firepower (Upgraded firebat is the ealiest and best unit for the job) to take either out. Imagine if some small, dinky normal marine found its way into your base and started shooting up the larva and eggs and killing them, all alone.

As previously stated, the HP of the eggs in NS are such so that a rambo cannot take them out without risking being killed by the alien who pops out, and so that the eggs can stand to wait there until help arives (many times i've killed marines shooting at eggs; both NS and SC)

Usually if I am near evolving eggs, I am trying to be covert anyway - so I let them evolve and go on with their life.

Besides, they seem to be slippery to me - I can hit a skulk just fine when he is running, but a stationary target ! can't hit it to save my life!

    I always nail eggs.
you do not know what it will become but if it died it wasted res. Since the minimum is 2 res I find the risk of my death acceptable.
  • Fro5tyFro5ty Join Date: 2003-09-26 Member: 21238Members, Constellation
You killed one gorge egg, you just caused an alien to waste 10 res and not be able to put up an RT in double, making someone else having to do it cause there to be a 35 res waste on the aliens. 10 for the egg, 15 leftover that will probably see some other use that is not an RT, if any, plus the other 10 required for another alien to gorge. You just bought yourself 3 shotguns and a pack of mines. Congratulations and let it be. If eggs were any easier to kill, you'd have people like me, egg hunting during the time fades/onos will pop up. I would hang in the starting hive (you have like a 50% higher chance of success getting into an alien hive and hiding than any uncontrolled hive) and pop off those that have been killing many marines as that they usually fade. Caught a troublesome fade in Origon before, they got a second hive and movements and he gestated right in front of me in the ore scanner area. I was in the dark are when he did it. We didn't win the game, but I still had the successful feeling of killing that damn fade....
  • BallistoBallisto Join Date: 2003-05-19 Member: 16503Members
I can't think of an ns map where you CAN'T gestate on top of the hive. And an onos and a fade can DEFINATELY survive the fall damage and then get healed up by the hive. Rafters are also a good place to gestate.

I think it's fine... but hey majority and balance rule.
