What Is The History Of The Swear Filters?

<div class="IPBDescription">how did the forums get all those word in</div> I was inputting new swear words into Invision's swear word filter when I had a thought. How did forums like NS put theirs?

Is it like
1. everytime someone said #####, a mod would edit it out and add it to the list
or
2. some poor guy spent a whole night manually inputting in every swear word from a list.
or
3. there was some kind of script/prog that automatically inserted the text file of swear words into invision's filter?

    Probably a combination of 1 and 2.

    For me though, I chose option 4: Have Nem send me NS's filter and I just copy n pasted it into <a href='http://www.espionagemod.com/forums/' target='_blank'>Espionage's</a>. :P

    The reason bob was in there is that it was the original nick name for the skulk (back when aliens were called lifeform 1, lifeform 2, ext) and they wanted to kill the nicknames when they officially renamed the lifeforms, but bob didn't want to die. I wonder if there are any real funny ones in there right now.
