Kazaa messes up my sound sometims, its probably a program thats doing it, if your using XP type msconfig in the run box and check whats loading at start up, maybe is some spy ware :?

Thanks for the replies guys <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> I don't think it's that, though. I keep tabs on what processes are running on my system at all times, and I can't think of any programs that would change microphone settings.

I was thinking that since I have to reboot to fix the problem it might be something mechanical. I have no idea; I don't know anything about the electronics aspect of it.

I'm surprised nobody has had this problem though.

I should also mention that when this problem occurs, the microphone is quiet in all applications, not just in half-life.
