Mounting A Ddr Pad: How?

any advice, fellow DDR freaks?
For any of you who remembers my recent video card thread: I ended up not buying the 9800. As a result I finished off the remainder of Planescape: Torment (amazing game) within 2 days. From there I thought to myself "What to do next without shooting myself in the wallet? I bought this DDR pad months ago, might as well get some exercise in..."

Being who I am, I have the cheap type of pad. Being what it is, it will slide on the floor, curl up under my feet to trip me, or make other attempts at raising my health insurance costs unless I do something about it. This is why I haven't used it more than once even though I've owned it for months. Now that I've got the time, does anyone have any recommendations for mounting it?

I found a guide to mount it with wood and sheet metal, but I'd much rather not cut up the pad. Next I found this guide. Any other recommendations? Should I try putting any cushioning (carpet padding and such) somewhere in it for noise and comfort reasons? Do you know of any better ways to help keep the pad flat and spread out?

I really don't know. I myself weigh in at 260, so my pad moves all over(Yes, I'm overweight. No, I'm not fat. Weightlifting). Ways I used to hunker mine down were with just staplegunning the thing to a piece of wood, and that keeps it spread out, but it still moves.

I don't know I don't use such pads, but I'd suppose putting it on a hard surface with teflon pads/ducttape it down should stabilize it a bit. Thin carpets won't make it slide but if it's too thick stepping on them might deform the pad itself.

My friend modded his two pads according to that second tutorial. It works very well, though the plywood would sometimes slip around on a smooth, worn carpet. You can also slide the pad in and out, so you can replace it if it gets busted. All in all, a pretty good setup. My only recommendation is to not make the plastic sheeting *too* tight on the plywood, or else you'll get false presses on the buttons.

I'd hazard a guess that putting a rubber pad under the dance pad might keep it from sliding...

with all the supplies and effort to mount a cheap pad, wouldn't it just be easier to buy a more expensive pad? instead of buying all that hardware, etc etc...

I'm kinda with disco... so I bought a full blown metal one =3
Course, I think soft mats are the devil ^^

Seems the thingy in the 2nd linky is the most popular method =o

Meh, I have a variation of the 2nd method but I'm not sure if it works....never learned much from D&T lessons....

Staple/Glue/Tape the mat to the hardwood (to keep it in place) and glue rubber pegs of equal dimensions underneath it (to kep it from sliding too much)

Rubber pegs of at least 1mm should do the trick. It doesn't have to be too tall....unless you wanna feel like doing DDR on a mountain :O

Most popular way is to tape AND staple, but be careful not to let any glue seep into the pad, and make sture you don't accidentally staple any vital components in the pad.

My boss has one of those cheap pads. He just went to Home Depot and got a piece of wood big enough and then duct taped the pad to the board. Looks cheesy, but works just fine w/ next to no work required.

Wish I could assist, but I also have a full-blown metal one, with lighty steps and a bar to rape and everything.

In other news, I can't pass MAXX UNLIMITED on Standard :X

I remember seeing pads for sale at Lowes that prevent a carpet from moving. You just put the pad underneath the rug, and it is a heck of a lot less likely to slide around. Maybe a piece of that would hold you DDR pad in place.
