Weird Problem

<div class="IPBDescription">Constant high latency in local area</div> It's rather funny to see that a person who has a 3M line would get 1000+ ping on a local server.....because that is my problem atm.

I have constantly tried changing my rates, from measly 300 to the highest value, 20000. Yet, the pings still remain the same.

Interent is working fine, as always. Still working at 3M performance. Checked networking status, there's nothing fishy happening there either.

I am using a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC, and I have updated the drivers to the latest ones. I have also tried rolling back to old drivers, but to no avail, this problem still persists.

    3M Line? What exactly is a 3M Line? (I am unfamiliar with the term)
    Local Server? And are you talking about a LAN (aka Local) Or just nearby server?

    Nearby servers.

    And when I say 3M, just take it as broadband <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I assume you have checked your Steam internet settings and made sure it is set to LAN/T1>1M?

    I am using same NIC and cable with no problems. This is the driver version I am using 5.396.530.2001 .

    ok, now we play *POKE*

    Are you running through a router?
    Is this at home or at school?
    Have you tried pinging/tracerouting to the servers?
    Virus scan/SpyWare scan (use atleast 2 spy ware killers, Ilike adaware and Search and destroy)
    www.dslreports.com
    tools and then line test <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Running through a router at home, and use a spyware scanner....

    which reminds me, I really haven't run much of the spyware scanner.....shame on me ^^;

    I haven't tried pinging or tracerouting though, I'll check the results later.

    EDIT : Thansal is teh win. My ping has ben chopped down to around 300~500 ping. STILL haven't run the spyware scanner though.

    EDIT : Mehehehe cleared up a short misconception back there.

    Random Ideas:

    1) I am serious when I say run 2 spyware scanners, find 2 that catch generaly different stuff (adaware will get all the dataminers and cookies that search and destroy will not)

    2) When your run those pings/tracerts run them on alot of things (try out some servers, try out stuff like google also)

    3) Posibly updtating the firmawre on the router (routers are rumoured to be wierd. Just don't for get to copy down all of the info for your net connection before upgrading)

    4) Make sure EVERYTIHNG is uptodate, drivers and windows updates primarily.

    good luck <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I would update my router but there's one problem....

    It's all in Chinese!!

    OMG wth that's what I get for living in Hong Kong grrr....

    BTW, I'm gonna get Ad-aware tomorrow before school so yeah, I'll run that too once I'm done installing it.
